Nothing describes the essential beauty of life more accurately than the word simplicity. The more simple something is, the more beautiful it seems. It is what it is, no extra doodads to distract one from the very thing they are observing. No garish colors, no sharp corners, specific rules, no labels. Simplicity is perfection, what you see is what you get, like the incredible beauty in the picture of the bubbles. Nothing more than simple round, crystal clear orbs, yet in the sun they shift and become magnificent orbs of iridescent colors. Their smooth roundness is perfect and complete, their beingness sufficient with no explanations needed. They just are, simple clear bubbles of magnificent splendor. There is nothing that could be added to make them any more beautiful than they already are.

All of life needs to return to simplicity again. It was our insatiable need to improve on things, change things, add to things, that destroyed the essence of a simple way of living that worked. By doing what we did, we were constantly sending out the message to ourselves ” What we have is not good enough as it is”, and soon we began to buy into that message and thus began our quest for the elusive perfection of everything. We added to it so many times, now it now had a million new parts that were breakable and always becoming obsolete. We saw this happening as life went forward, yet we never stopped the insanity and demanded to return to what was right in the first place. We often talked about it saying “You know, they just don’t make things the way they used to.” Making the almighty profit rather than a good and long-lasting product had now become the new way of life.

Spirituality has always been a simple and workable way to live our lives and yet we were forced to abandon that way of life. Before, we lived from our hearts, happy to want nothing more than good health, a strong family and a way to earn a living to keep food on the table. We were centered in love and our lives were filled with gratitude, but soon ego took over and rooted itself in our lives like a malignant tumor. We learned discontent, envy and jealousy, we forgot about appreciating what we had and complicated life with our ever-expanding hunger for more or better. We could not leave well enough alone and because of this we lost our simplicity and a happy and meaningful way to live our lives.

The more I retreat from the insane world and return to simplicity the happier my life becomes. I think we would all be happier pursuing this way of life. We created electricity to better our lives and in many ways it has, but you cannot create the magic of dancing, flickering, shadows around a room with electric lights! We constantly heard the cry of ” Progress!” to make lives better for all, but were we really doing that, or were we being pulled into the trap of being made dependent slowly and methodically over time so they could ultimately gain control? Simplicity gave us our control, modernizing everything took it away. I guess it is time for people to take a long hard look inside and decide which kind of life they want to live, modernized and controlled, or simple and free. I know which one I would choose.

Blessings to you all,
