Break on Through: Full Moon in Capricorn
Full Moons are dramatic events that often bring emotions to the surface. The opposition of the Moon to the Sun contrasts inner needs and external expression. Every Full Moon is a paradox as we encounter extreme positions along the same line of thought.
On July 3, for example, the Moon in Capricorn faces the Sun in Cancer. Both signs are associated with security, yet they seek it in different ways. Capricorn, a pragmatic Earth sign, is concerned with accomplishment, success and external status. Cancer, on the other hand, is a return to our roots in an inner search for safety. Capricorn is about getting tougher and developing the discipline it takes to overcome obstacles. Cancer is about tenderness, self-protection and pulling away from external challenges.
The Full Moon in Capricorn is a signal to grow up and take responsibility for ourselves and our feelings. Ideally, the Cancer Sun represents the care we provide ourselves so we can achieve these ambitious goals. It's really not a matter of choosing to be hard or soft, sensitive or insensitive; this Full Moon is about learning how to navigate across the security-seeking spectrum to be tough or tender depending on the circumstances. When the lesson is learned, we feel at home within ourselves and within the community.
The July 3 Capricorn Full Moon at 11:52 a.m. (PT) is a very unusual one. We're unlikely to be able to cuddle up with old emotional blankets or to stay on a straight path toward professional success. The reason is that this lunation picks up the most powerful planetary pattern of 2012-2015, the ongoing squares between revolutionary Uranus and metamorphic Pluto. The former makes stressful squares to this Sun-Moon opposition, and the latter is joined with the Moon, making this a transformational event that is more likely to radically alter courses of action than to deepen commitments to current plans.
Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, joined with the Full Moon can touch nerves related to status, respect and professional ambitions. Potential power struggles with authority figures are really reflections of inner struggles with existing goals. Pluto challenges us to cut to the bone and address our deepest desires. Ideas, expectations, activities and individuals that do not serve that need may be eliminated. Normally, the temptation to hold on to what we already know, have or believe can be strong enough to resist change. This time, though, resistance is futile.
That's because restless and radical Uranus is shaking the ground upon which we stand. Geological and political earthquakes can be expected during the next 28 days. These events are mirrored internally with a sense of urgency that encourages risk taking and rebelliousness. This seems like a contradiction during a Full Moon that's about security, yet taking chances is probably safer than standing still.
Breaking routines, exploring new experiences and taking a totally fresh look at goals can invite change without leading to disaster. Brilliant concepts can pop into heads and turn minds in exciting directions. Denying this need for renewal, however, can attract undesirable surprises.
