Earthquakes have picked up again (but not much) in numbers at El Hierro volcano. As before, the quakes are concentrated in the western El Golfo and central areas of the island.
At Kilauea volcano on Hawai'i, the lava flows have now reached the coastal flat at the base of the pali.
Popocatépetl's activity fluctuates. During 2-3 Oct, only 7 weak explosions occurred. At night, crater glow is visible indicating that the lava dome is still slowly growing.
No big changes happened in the activity of Guatemalan volcanoes, but activity at Fuego volcano is on the increase and local media start to report on it as well. The volcano has been producing 1-2 weak to moderate explosions per hour, with ash plumes up to 1 km height and incandescent pulses of 200 m above the crater. Shock waves are felt in up to 15 km distance.
Santiaguito has few weak explosions with ash plumes rising up to 700 m and constant block avalanches from the weakly active lava flows on the sides of the dome.
Nevado del Ruiz volcano is sending a strong steam plume containing a lot of SO2 into the atmosphere. Occasional weak explosions with some ash venting continue to occur from time to time.
Volcanoes in Alaska and Kamchatka have mostly remained rather calm.
The lava flow from the NW side of Sheveluch volcano's lava dome is still active and produced hot avalanches during the previous week.
