Nelson Mandela hospitalized for lung infection

Johannesburg (CNN) -- South Africa appealed to the world Thursday to pray for former

President Nelson Mandela, who was readmitted to a hospital overnight for a recurring

lung infection.

Mandela was conscious when he was taken to the hospital just before midnight Wednesday,

President Jacob Zuma's office said.
