If you care about preventing the proposed Keystone XL pipeline from ripping through America’s heartland, this is an emergency.
Last week, Congressional Republicans moved to marry the upcoming debt ceiling vote to an up-or-down decision on the Keystone pipeline. This is not lawmaking, it’s hostage-taking. It’s a trick of procedure that will tie the fates of every single person who lives in the path of Keystone XL to the necessary debt ceiling vote.
We need to speak up right now, and we need to speak loudly.
The people in the path deserve a legitimate vote on what will happen to their homes. The rest of us deserve genuine debate on whether this pipeline will cut through our country at absolutely no benefit to American consumers -- and at the expense of our heartland’s economy, lands, and waters.
