Guy Fawkes is a symbol of revolution in the Anonymous community. Fawkes, as commemorated in the movie “V for Vendetta”, tried unsuccessfully to blow up the House of Lords on November 5th, 1605 as he was trying to bring about a return of Catholicism to England. Members of Anonymous have turned up recently in the news, and the group has frustrated law enforcement and agencies since they are not a centralized or controlled group, but rather knit together by ideas. The march is planned to be a peaceful event. There are also simultaneous protests being planned around the world. The official Facebook page states that “only” 13,880 people are going to the event, but this of course makes no sense because it is not likely that Anonymous members would respond that they are going on a social media channel. Now, as of this moment the National Mall is closed due to the shutdown. Obviously it is difficult to project whether that will still be the case when the event comes and goes. Still, the event is expected to be nonviolent, and Anonymous’ messages have been very clear of a lack of tolerance for any acts of violence. Anonymous has repeatedly said through the years –
We are anonymous, we are the majority, we are not alone
On Nov 5th, many members will indeed not be alone…
