Tropical Storm Francisco's time as a tropical cyclone is coming to a close. However, it is helping to bring more heavy rain to parts of Japan.
Francisco made the forecast sharp northeast turn earlier this week under the influence of the increasing westerly mid-latitude winds aloft, and is now steadily losing its tropical characteristics.
A cold front arriving from eastern Asia is now catching up to Francisco, and will help sweep it away from Japan by Saturday.
With that said, moist flow on the east side of Francisco's circulation initially helped stall and intersected this front over southern Japan, producing torrential rainfall.
