A recent stretch of unsettled weather across the Middle East is expected to continue into the upcoming weekend.

The wild weather ranged from strong thunderstorms in Afghanistan to flooding in southern parts of the Arabian Peninsula to hail storms across northern Saudi Arabia.

Another blast of cold air is charging southward across the Plains this week, which will lead to more spring snow.

After more than 6 inches of snow piled up in Cheyenne through the wee hours of Wednesday morning, the city of Denver was next, starting at 2 a.m. MDT.

Last Chance for Lyrid Meteors This Year: Where to See Them

AccuWeather.com meteorologists continue to monitor sky cover for the viewing possibilities of the Lyrids, the first major meteor shower since early January.

The shower continues to be visible through April 26 after peaking during the predawn hours of Monday, April 22. While the Lyrids average 10 to 20 meteors an hour, AccuWeather's Mark Paquette said there is potential for significantly more.

Mansfield Tornado Damages Buildings, Injures One

A tornado touched down in the town of Mansfield, Ga., at about 1 p.m. EDT Friday.

"The storms moved through at the time of the tornado, there was one half to an inch of rain with some areas locally seeing higher amounts," AccuWeather Meteorologist Erik Pindrock said. "At the nearest observation site 45-50 miles away, a 54 mph wind gust was recorded."

Deadly Iran Earthquake Leaves Thousands Homeless

USGS made significant updates to the depth of the earthquake. It was initially estimated to be at a depth of 9.4 miles below the earth's surface, and the depth is now estimated at 51.0 miles below the earth's surface. The depth of the quake has serious implications on the shaking felt around it. Around the epicenter, strong shaking was felt with light damage possible.


 

A violent, shallow earthquake having a preliminary magnitude of 7.8 has rocked a wide area of southeastern Iran near the Pakistan border.

Live: Severe Storms, Flooding Columbus to Atlanta

Severe thunderstorms are rolling across portions of the Midwest, slamming cities from Louisiana through Ohio and Indiana. Conditions are prime for tornadoes and dangerously large hail.

Areas of flooding and mudslides are have been reported in Iowa as high winds whip through parts of Tennessee and Alabama. Meanwhile, power outages have been reported throughout Illinois and Kentucky.

Migrating Monarchs Face Hazardous Travel

The Monarch butterflies migrating from Mexico to Canada will cross states that lack wildflowers and Milkweed due to wildfires, weed control and drought conditions.

This years swarm is feared to be the smallest since the winter of 2004-2005, according to learner.org. During the migration south, the butterflies were dealing with sparse areas with wildflowers due to drought and wildfires across many of the southern states. The nectar they collect from the flowers help fuel them for their journey to Mexico where they overwinter.
