Heal Yourself, Heal the World

It’s easy to ignore our personal issues by focusing solely on what’s wrong with the world, but in doing so, we enable our shortcomings to continue and avoid crucial lessons that contribute to the growth of the soul.

We should obviously raise awareness of the dysfunction in society, but we can do it without ignoring our own issues. If our personal choices affect the world like some say, then we can enable the changes the world needs by making personal changes of our own.

In my opinion, the best way to help the world is to match our personal changes with dedicated activism. We can strive to become better and make the world a better place, and one of them doesn’t have to replace the other.

The ideal world-changer recognizes their flaws and works to resolve them, and the hole in our hearts will grow until we look within and discover that beyond the pain we subconsciously cling to exist nothing but love, divine emptiness and inspiration to change.

Be Yourself, Love Yourself

Too many people want to tell you how to live, and you might be made into an outcast if you don’t follow along.

Good.

In a conformist society, to be an outcast is to be unique. Why try to please people who’ll judge you no matter what you do when you can make your own path and be free instead?

Most people want to fit in because of a sense of inadequacy and vulnerability, and they try to fill the hole in their hearts with other people’s approval. They don’t have enough self-love to know they don’t need approval to be happy, and if they loved themselves, they wouldn’t care as much about what other people think.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t try to get along with people, but we shouldn’t sacrifice who we are just to please them. We can extend ourselves a little and try to relate to them, but to mirror them or give in to peer pressure for the sake of approval is to sacrifice our uniqueness and authenticity.

We’ll know it isn’t right based on how it makes us feel, but the need to fit in is too strong for some people to notice.

We All Want a Better World

The conscious community is comprised of people from all walks of life who are passionate about changing the world, and we all have different beliefs, lifestyles and visions of the future.

Some want to expand their consciousness, while others want to protect endangered species and hold corrupt corporations accountable for environmental crimes. Some want to expose government corruption, and some want to do all of it.

They want to protect animals, raise their vibration, hold the corrupt accountable; advocate healthful eating; the list goes on. These are the ones who can achieve the most if they’re motivated enough, because they’re passionate about it all.

Some in our community are into spiritual concepts like channeling, chakras, extraterrestrials and the energy grid believed to surround the world.

They usually care more ascension, enlightenment and bringing people together to form a mutual understanding of spirituality than changing society, and in my opinion, they have as much to offer as anyone else in our community.

Unity Doesn’t Mean Conformity – Part 2/2

Credit: meetville.com

By Wes Annac, Culture of Awareness

Continued from part 1. Read full post here.

When we understand and embody love, we’ll see that unity isn’t as much about being the same as it is honoring individuality.

The very idea that unity should mean conformity says something about the human condition, and love will reawaken the understanding of what unity is supposed to be.

We can then share this understanding with those who’ve been in the dark about love, unity and respect, and if we work hard enough and share our truth with everyone who’s willing to listen, the influence of love and genuine unity will spread like wildfire.

The world will finally have the collective awakening it needs, and even more important will be the social action that results. We’ll finally care enough about each other and our planet to take a stand for the environment and the human rights that are denied to us, and the work will be easier because we’ll do it all together.

Unity Doesn’t Mean Conformity – Part 1/2

Unity is commonly associated with conformity and the suppression of the individual, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

We can come together without conforming to the same beliefs or lifestyle, but we have to accept that we all think differently and look beyond our differences for the common good.

I’m not saying we should tolerate dangerous views that could cause harm to others, but it’s equally harmful to fight over ideological differences in a world where everyone thinks differently.

Our job is not to think or behave like each other, but to learn to respect our individuality and the value of independent thought.

People are accustomed to going to extremes with everything, so when a revolutionary concept like unity is brought to the table, it’s automatically associated with conformity and discouragement of the things that make us each unique.

Creativity Feeds the Soul

Credit: meaningfullife.com

By Wes Annac, Culture of Awareness

I think creativity and the transformation of consciousness have more in common than most people think. My fellow creative minds probably know what I mean, and we feel like something’s missing if we aren’t hard at work.

It’s as if creativity feeds the soul.

Writers don’t feel complete if they don’t write every day. Musicians feel a hole in their heart if they don’t play every day.

Creativity and spiritual awakening seem intertwined, and while some people’s spiritual practices have nothing to do with creativity, others use it to expand their consciousness and share the good vibes.

As a writer with an interest in music, I can attest that these two creative outlets feed the soul in a way that few other things can. While they take time away from meditation, exploring nature and other soul-nourishing activities, they’re nourishing enough by themselves to make up the difference.

I’m not saying we’ll discover the secrets of God or the universe by playing music or writing articles, but since these outlets require us to look within and bring what we find into the physical world, you could say they bridge the gap between our inner and outer reality.

The Teachers Speak: Alan Watts on Love and True Spirituality

The Teachers Speak (KEEP)

By Wes Annac, Culture of Awareness

Alan Watts was a writer, speaker and philosopher who brought eastern philosophy to western spiritual seekers. (1)

He was and still is loved by many in the spiritual community, and his large volume of writings and lectures is considered by many to be a great source of wisdom.

We can learn from his work and the example he set that social morality is just as important as personal. While it’s argued that personal change is the best way to change the world, we can’t forget that changing the way we interact with each other and the earth is also crucial if we want a society that reflects our growing spiritual awareness.

I’d like to share some quotes from Alan Watts that exemplify who he was and what he thought about life, spirituality and our connection with All That Is.

Can We Be Sensible About Channeling?

Credit: exploremeditation.com

By Wes Annac, Culture of Awareness

Channeling: “The practice of professedly entering a meditative or trancelike state in order to convey messages from a spiritual guide.” (Source)

This will be difficult to write, and my intention isn’t to condemn my friends in the conscious community who love channeled messages.

Yet for this piece, I need to be real and express what I’m feeling.

The latest post from Greg Giles, former channel for the ‘Galactic Federation of Light’, exemplifies one of the reasons I stopped channeling.

In his post, he claims that channeled messages are part of a government psy-ops program that lures well-meaning people to their mental and spiritual demise with what are apparently artificial telepathic communications sent by the government to control our minds; not messages from beings who want to help us evolve.

Courage Comes from Love

Credit: lifecatcherforever.wordpress.com

By Wes Annac, Culture of Awareness

In my eyes, to be courageous is to be willing to do what we know is right for us and the planet even if it scares us. We can achieve anything if we have courage and we can persevere, but it’s easier to be afraid of challenges and new experiences than it is to confront them.

A lot of people prefer to avoid the challenges life puts on their path, but they don’t understand that those challenges exist for a reason.

The purpose of life (beyond trying to make the world a better place) is to learn and grow until we eventually reunite with the Source, and we won’t make any progress if we avoid challenging ourselves and learning new things.

In order to overcome a challenge, we have to find the courage to confront it (and keep going once we do) no matter how much we’d rather stick with what’s comfortable. For example; we’ll be tempted to give up on our life purpose a lot because it isn’t always comfortable or enjoyable, but if it means enough to us, we’ll never stray too far from it.

If we give in to the temptation and distance ourselves from it, we’ll miss out on one of the most worthwhile aspects of being human: living with purpose. Our existence on this planet is no accident, and we’re not just here to survive.

Awareness Diminishes Fear

let-us-not-look-back-in-anger-nor-forward-in-fear-but-around-in-awareness-anger-quoteBy Wes Annac, Culture of Awareness

Are you afraid to take the next step in your work, your relationship or another area of life? Many people who are ready for this next step tend to hesitate, and they stay on the same level they’ve always been at as a result.

We can avoid this by asking ourselves if we’re truly ready to grow and face new challenges, and if we are, facing those challenges head-on. There will be plenty of obstacles, but we can get past them if we keep our goals in mind as well as why we want to advance in the first place.

For many people, it’s because they’re passionate about what they do. It basically comes down to love, and they wouldn’t try so hard if they didn’t love their work. However cliché it sounds, love is the key to all of this and most people wouldn’t do what they do or be with the people they’re with if they didn’t have love.

A lot of people don’t like their jobs, for example, but they do them anyway because they want to provide for the family they love. Some people have discovered their life purpose and work hard at it every day, and they do it because, you guessed it, they love it.
