speaking of scientology
Does anyone know how to successfully put a stop to their calls and mailings? We are spiritual, not religious, always have been - and have no idea how they got our info? Our mailbox gets so clogged up because of their crap and they have even called our home and cell phone numbers which they would have no way of ever getting unless someone on the inside of our provider companies gave it out. Heck, we even pay to have our landline unpublished.
Anyway, I don't want to encourage them so if it's best to just ignore we will but it's a serious irritation.
Thoughts, anyone?
Scientology
I had a friend who was a scientologist, and he took me to their "Celebrity Center" in Los Angeles, and to a very impressive "light show" with stars like John Travolta. They introduced me to some very attractive young men who were part of "Sea Org", their paramilitary organization that operates just outside of the US waters so that they do not have to obey US laws. They tried to talk me into doing a "purification rundown" where you spend eight hours a day in a sauna with an "auditor" who records what you say and supposedly helps you through the "detoxification" of your body from any kind of drug, including dental novocaine. That really scared me. I told them I cannot spend time in a sauna because I have asthma and high blood pressure, and they told me that my doctors did not know what they were talking about and were "poisoning" me. I was unemployed at the time, and they offered me a job if I would do the purification rundown.
I refused, and they said, "It's the first step, everyone does it." And I told them "I will not do it! And I don't want you to find me a job, or anything. I don't want anything to do with you, I just came because I was curious and because of my good friend. He chooses to be a scientologist, but I do not. And I think it is strange that you have a paramilitary organization, I do not know of any other church that has that..."
Maybe I was just lucky, or maybe it was because they were under fire for their tax exemption because they were not really operating as most people would define a "church."
The woman in the office looked at me and she said, "I get it."
And they left me alone.
I also had a friend who met L. Ron Hubbard in a coffee shop and went over to talk with him. My friend asked him, "Writing those books and making it into a religion must have made you a lot of money?" And Hubbard said, "Yeah, it's easy to get people to send money all the time if they think it's a church."
