び Ophiuchus- 13 Constellation Zodiac

Ophiuchus (pronounced/ɒˈfjuːk.əs/) has sometimes been used in sidereal astrology as a thirteenth constellation in addition to the twelve signs of the tropical Zodiac, because the eponymous constellation Ophiuchus (Greek Ὀφιοῦχος "Serpent-bearer") as defined by the 1930 IAU constellation boundaries is situated behind the sun between November 29 and December 18.

The idea appears to originate in 1970 with Stephen Schmidt's suggestion of a 14-sign zodiac (also including Cetus as a sign). A 13-sign zodiac has been suggested by Walter Berg and by Mark Yazaki in 1995, a suggestion that achieved some popularity in Japan (where Ophiuchus is known as snake messenger (へびつかい座 hebitsukai?)).

Mainstream sidereal astrology, notably Hindu astrology, and tropical astrology (including the popular Sun sign astrology) use the traditional 12-sign zodiac based on dividing the ecliptic into 12 equal parts rather than the IAU constellation boundaries, and do not regard Ophiuchus as a sign.

There is considerable confusion between the notion of a sign, which is an equal division of the sky into 12 in both the Vedic and the Western systems of astrology, and a constellation, which is a grouping of stars that touches the ecliptic. While Vedic uses a sidereal system based on the stars, that sidereal horoscope is divided evenly into 12 signs which are symbolic of the varying-size constellations they make contact with.

The constellation, Ophiuchus, has been known since ancient times, and is better known as Serpentarius, the Serpent Holder. It is included in the list of 48 constellations described by Ptolemy. Ophiuchus is depicted as a man handling a serpent; his body dividing the large snake into two parts, giving way to the symbol used today as an Asclepius - the medical staff.

Astrologers have not included Ophiuchus in the wheel of Astrological signs because the Sun spends only about nineteen days in this 13th sign of the Mazzaroth. Not that there wasn't a 13th sign in the Heavens, but as far as Astrologers were concerned, the Sun traveled from the constellation 'Scorpius' and then proceeded directly into the sign of Sagittarius. In reality, this was not the case. The Sun, for 19 days of the year, travels through the star constellation 'Ophiuchus' before entering Sagittarius from Scorpius

The signs of the Zodiac are for the most part, the highway, or path on which the Sun takes it's yearly journey across the heavens - as it would appear to Earthlings. These signs are actually star constellations occupying space in which the Sun appears to travels in an earth year. The original twelve signs/constellations: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces are quite familiar to everyone, however, the thirteenth sign and constellation, [Ophiuchus], is in fact, not well known.

To acknowledge a 13th sign now would seem awkward for astrologers, who like the tidiness of 12 signs that rule over the 12 houses of the Zodiac. The heavens are alive and they do change after a few thousand years and the astrologer who wants to maintain accuracy must change along with the signs in the heavens.

he constellation of Ophiuchus is the only sign of the Zodiac which is linked to a real man. This man lived in ancient Egypt around the 27th century BCE, and his name was Imhotep [again patterned after Enki. Many of the same attributes of Imhotep can also be found in the Biblical Hebrew man Joseph, son of Jacob.

Imhotep is credited with many accomplishments including the knowledge and use of medicine. It is said of Imhotep that he brought the art of healing to mankind. The symbol of a serpent [or snake], which is still widely used today to represent the medical profession, was used to represent Imhotep.

Imhotep was also known as 'Aesclepius' to the ancient Greeks, but by any name the attributes are still all the same. The attributes listed below describe the Serpent Holder, Imhotep, i.e. the Hebrew Joseph, and Aesclepius. The keyword descriptions seen below, originated with Betty Rhodes, and are the attributes for the 13th sign of the Zodiac.

The 12 zodiac signs

Lynn's picture

I have been an astrologer for over 30 years and the 13th sign was introduced sometime back in the 70's I think, and I personally worked with it for a while before dropping it, and giving it the same classification as all the other constellations.

Orphius lies roughly between 8 -25 degrees sagittarius, and the constallation has no more importance than any of the others. it neither marks the begining or end of any of the suns fields. Jupiter traditionally rules this area of space, but the Moon rules the second decan that Orpheus covers, and if you look at the symbol of Moon-Jupiter, it covers all what is said about orpheus.

Please don't think that this constellation is part of our 12 dimensional field system,

In essence the changing directions of the suns rotational fields creates the 12 zodiac signs, (there is not 13) and the constalations are nothing more than a backdrop to identify where the magnetic fields start and end, which is why perameters are constantly changing.

The zodiac signs are nothing more than a means of identifying where the fields lie in the sky. All information comes in on the dynamic solar wind, which plays on the van allen belts and changes the inductance field which talks to our DNA.

FYI there are two web sites that are completely focused on Ophiuchus-the 13th Zodiac Constellation. It's not a side-line for this woman. She's been researching Ophiuchus for almost 30 years. Her information is not copy-pasted from other web pages that may or may not have accurate info. You should check her sites out sometime.
