Cold and Flu Remedies That Work

Desert Gypsy's picture

Colds and flues seem to be on the rise with the changing seasons.  Many of us prefer not to use OTC or prescription medications because of their toxicity on the physical body. They  actually make the healing process take longer by suppressing proper immune system function. Fortunately, there are many highly effective natural remedies available to us.

My family and friends have benefited from the use of the following remedies for over thirty years with great success. I gift them now to you with love.

Vinegar Vapors:  For congestion of the sinus and lungs

1 cup apple cider vinegar with the mother.

2 cups water.

Heat until boiling. Inhale the steam.

Sinus: Inhale in through the nose and out through the nose 3 times – morning and night.

Lungs: Inhale in through the mouth and out through the mouth 3 times – morning and night.

Resist doing this procedure more than twice a day to avoid irritation. The vinegar dries up mucous membranes. I like to use this remedy at the first hint of a cold. I find it lessens the severity of the cold or just stops it in its tracks.

Also, the vinegar/water mixture can be reheated many times, just be sure and replenish the water so that it does not become to strong.

Mild Mustard Plaster

I use this one anytime coughing or lung congestion is present. It is a great children’s remedy as well as used for adults. Recommended for emphysema, pleurisy, and  pneumonia. Friends have used this with great success when pharmaceuticals have failed. I keep the dry ingredients ready in the freezer.  (From Herbally Yours by Penny C. Royal)

May be left on over night. Also used for babies. 1 TB ginger, 1 TB dry mustard, 1 TB flour. Mix together. Add 3 TB shortening or lard and  1 TB turpentine (won’t work without it folks).

Rub on chest front and back, cover with plastic and old t-shirt. I usually leave it on 3 hours. Remove if skin becomes pink or irritated.

I also recommend that a pot of lightly steaming water be left on low heat with a few TB of apple cider vinegar or eucalyptus oil added to it disinfect the air. Also, use this mixture to wipe down door knobs and light switches. This prevents the spread of viruses in your household.

Happy Healing from Earth Allie Desert Gypsy!

In loving and joyful memory of Karen Land.

I wanted to share some things I've used that work amazingly well and fast:

Make your own elixir with lemon, ginger, cayenne, garlic, and honey.

Hydrogen peroxide drops in the ears - hold your head parallel to the floor until fizzing stops.

Colloidal silver drops - ingesting directly or in drinking water.

Purple mushroom immune booster supplements - I don't recall the brand off hand but happy to look it up if anyone is interested.

And grandma's favorite - sip some honey, lemon and whiskey in a shot glass.

Rest rest rest your body!!

Be well one and all smiley
