The mushroom cloud was filmed by Chinese office workers who had a great view.
They expressed, mostly, amazement and child-like wonder. Nature can be impressive when it wants to be, that’s for sure.

Strong earthquake with magnitude 6.1 struck Luzon, Philippines on June 16, 2012 at 22:18 UTC according to USGS. Epicenter was located 94 km (58 miles) SW of Dagupan, Luzon, Philippines (15.574°N, 119.609°E). Recorded depth was 35.3 km (21.9 miles).
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology - PHIVOLCS is reporting 6.0 earthquake. No damage is expected from this one. Aftershocks are expected.

Colombian volcano Nevado del Ruiz spews ash and gas and rumbles with strong, strange noises

June 18, 2012 – COLOMBIA - Plumes of smoke and ash are continuing to rise from Colombia’s Nevado del Ruiz volcano. People living on its slopes said they had heard “strong, strange noises” coming from the summit of the 5,346m-high mountain on Friday and Saturday. Officials say an orange alert first declared three weeks ago is still in place for areas near the summit. More than 25,000 people died in a mudslide caused by Nevado del Ruiz in its last eruption in 1985. Officials have distributed 30,000 face masks to residents living in areas affected by ash from the volcano. The airport in the nearby town of Manizales, in central Colombia, has been closed since the end of May, and will remain so until the volcano ceases to emit ash, officials said. The Volcanic Observatory in Manizales said the plume of ash and gas had risen to a height of 2,000m (6,500ft) on Sunday. Scientists at the observatory warned there was a risk of an eruption “within days or weeks.” –BBC
Hurricane Carlotta dumps torrential rains and kills 3 in Mexico

A house collapsed in southwestern Mexico in a mudslide under heavy rains unleashed by Hurricane Carlotta, two of their inhabitant died and one is injured.
“The rains were very heavy on Friday, but this morning, there is decreased cloud cover as the storm faded,” a civil protection official said. Carlotta quickly petered out after making landfall just northwest of Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca state, and weakened to a tropical depression earlier Saturday over the mountains of southern Mexico. The Mexican government discontinued all watches and warnings over Carlotta, which was expected to slow down gradually into Sunday, although the storm or its remnants were forecast to remain inland over southern Mexico for the next day or two, according to the Miami-based US National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Four dead sea turtles washed ashore on beaches along New Jersey Sunday, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.
Three loggerhead sea turtles and one leatherback sea turtle were among those found at beaches in Spring Lake, Island Beach State Park in Berkeley, North Wildwood and the Townsends Inlet area of Sea Isle City, said Sheila Dean, co-director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.
The three loggerhead sea turtles found weighed between 30 and 45 pounds each, she said. The leatherback, found in Townsends Inlet, weighed about 245 pounds, Dean said.

Shortly after reporting to duty on Sunday, Dewey Beach lifeguards spotted a large object floating in the surf about 100 yards from shore, surrounded by seagulls. It turned out to be a severely decomposed leatherback which the guards brought on the beach at Cullen Street.
The remains were so heavy, lifeguards asked the police for an SUV to help drag it across the sand toward the dunes where they planned to bury it after experts from the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute examine it.
Suzanne Thurman, MERR executive director, says this was the only leatherback reported so far this year. It was roughly five-feet long and 500 pounds in weight. She says leatherbacks can reach 1000 pounds. The leatherback is the largest of all living sea turtles and is critically endangered.

Manali: Besides the eight Israeli nationals who are stranded in Pin valley of Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal since June 5, the rising level of water in Kiri river has also put 2,500 residents of thirteen villages in trouble.
Stranded in their own treacherous valley, villagers had been seeking help for over a week as their ration and other commodities have almost depleted. Power supply and telephone connectivity to the valley has snapped and some confused and helpless villagers have already made failed attempts to cross the flooded stream, putting their lives in danger.

Larimer County Sheriff's officials said this afternoon that the number of homes lost in the High Park fire has reached 181, the most in Colorado history surpassing the Four Mile fire in 2010, which claimed 169 homes.
Meantime, the evacuation order for residents of the Santanka Trail area on the north end of Horsetooth Reservoir has been lifted. Residents in the neighborhoods of Soldier Canyon and Mill Canyon also will be able to return home starting at 6 tonight. This area will only be open to residents for the time being to give them time to move back in and for officials to secure the area.
Fire officials said the main priority for fire crews today remains structure protection and keeping the edge of the fire south of Poudre
