Tons of dead sardines washed up at the fishing port of Ohara, Japan

Something terribly fishy is going on at the fishing port of Ohara (pronounced Oh-hara) in Isumi City of Chiba Prefecture, and it has nothing to do with espionage or political corruption. There are tons and tons of dead sardines washing up on the shore, and not only is the sight disturbing, but the huge amount of dead fish is literally smelling up the entire surrounding area.

According to the news, the dead fish started washing up around noon of June 3rd, and as of early afternoon on June 4th, the situation still remained pretty much out of control. The amount of dead sardines that has washed up is thought to total several dozen metrics tons, so you can imagine how bad the smell of rotting fish must be.

Severe weather warning for parts of New South Wales and Queensland, Australia

BY

ADONAI

 – JUNE 5, 2012

Tens of thousands of Victorians are without power as flash floods and damaging winds force residents from the homes. The east coast is facing king tides, torrential rain and damaging winds which have already caused flash flooding and power outages in Victoria’s Gippsland area.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for large parts of coastal New South Wales, and Queensland is also expecting gale force winds and king tides over the next 48 hours. The weather is going to be tough on the beaches also, with both states expecting to see huge swells and coastal erosion.

Damaging rains have already hit Victoria where at least 10,000 properties in the Gippsland area are without electricity and some residents of Taralgon have evacuated after the creek burst its banks overnight, flooding the town. More than 830 people have called the State Emergency Service (SES) seeking help since Sunday morning, with up to 200mm of rain recorded in parts of the state since 9am on Sunday.

The Traralgon Creek overflowed in the early hours of this morning, prompting residents to rush to the local evacuation centre. Three people have been treated for hypothermia including a 13-year-old and a seven-year-old. Another dozen people were rescued from floodwaters, including three people caught in their car at nearby Yarram.  http://thewatchers.adorraeli.com/2012/06/05/severe-weather-warning-for-parts-of-new-south-wales-and-queensland-australia/

Manam – one of PNG’s most active volcanoes has new series of eruptions

BY

 – JUNE 5, 2012

The 10-km-wide Manam Island, lying 13 km off the northern coast of mainland Papua New Guinea, is one of the country’s most active volcanoes.

ABC Radio Australia reported yesterday, June 4, 2012 that a new series of eruptions have begun and that warnings to residents have been made to take precautions.

Vents on the volcano are glowing at nights and explosions in the craters can be heard more than 15 kilometres away.

Ima Itakarai, the assistant director of the Rabaul Volcanology Observatory says it’s possibility of a major explosion cannot be ruled out, but it’s not imminent. http://thewatchers.adorraeli.com/2012/06/05/manam-one-of-pngs-most-active-volcanoes-has-new-series-of-eruptions/

Volcano region on Hawaii’s Big Island shaken by constant swarm of tremors

Posted on June 6, 2012

June 6, 2012 – HAWAII -Mantle Plume: A large number of earthquakes has been rattling the Volcano area on Hawaii Island over the last few days. The quakes have been small, with no damage reported. Still, a handful of those temblors have been 3.0 magnitude and over. There is a constant swarm of quakes surrounding the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home of the active Kilauea Volcano. We took a screen grab of the screen of the USGS HVO earthquake page, and it shows the long list stretching all the way back to Friday, June 1st. 16 earthquakes have already registered on the list before noon on Tuesday, Hawaii time. The GPS network recorded weak extension overall for the past few months with superimposed contraction and extension fluctuations corresponding to DI tilt events. Seismic tremor levels were generally low, decreasing from a peak around 11 am Sunday. A whopping thirty-three earthquakes were strong enough to be located beneath Kilauea volcano: 4 deep earthquakes below the southwest rift zone, 3 beneath the west edge of the summit area, 7 within and below the upper east rift, 1 north of the middle east rift zone, 7 on south flank faults, and 11 mostly shallow long-period (LP) earthquakes within the Koa`e Fault Zone beneath the Kulanaokuaiki Camp Ground; a quick check this morning showed no obvious new cracking on the surface near the campground. The rise of the Kilauea summit lava lake level in Halemaumau crater continued with several overflows of the inner ledge. At Pu`u `O`o, scientists report lava also rose within the east collapse pit; to the southeast, lava flows continued to advance on the coastal plain. –Big Island Video News
