GFP Newsletter - 3/11/2014

Back in the days before our idea of relaxing was zoning out in front of a television, we played. Recess consisted of games such as tag and red rover, and after-school activities included pick-up basketball, dressing up dolls and good old-fashioned games of catch.

But somewhere between childhood and adolescence, we stopped playing and started working. We became too busy to play; we had assignments, work, studying and any playing we did consisted of structured practices and competitions where one of us ultimately lost.

Surrender is a positive, healthy state. Being a surrendered person does not mean one is beaten down and so hopeless he or she has "given up." It's quite the contrary. Surrender is a state of living in the flow, trusting what is, and being open to serendipity and surprises.

Imagine that you are a beautiful, shining, multi-faceted jewel. You shimmer and reflect light and dazzle with your beauty. That is who you are, and your natural state of being. But over time, by not paying attention, you start to pick up grime. Fear, doubt, resistance, all leave a layer of density on your jewel. The grime of those energies attracts even more density from other people and environments. And the things that you choose to immerse yourself in that are not empowering, leave their own energetic sludge behind as well. Before you know it, you are so obscured by density that is not even yours, that is not your truth, that you find it hard to remember that you are a beautiful shiny jewel!

At any time, you can decide to change the road you're on in life, take a new direction, follow a new trail.  You are the only one who really knows what you want from life and if you're on the right road for you.  You are the only one who can fulfill your dreams and receive the joys and happiness that come from reaching those aspirations and goals.

I've been accused of not respecting religion, and you know what? It's true! I don't respect belief systems, what would have happened if Jesus "respected" the Pharisees? What if Martin Luther King had "respected" racist beliefs? What if Gandhi had "respected" British imperialism? Change doesn't come by respecting old belief systems.
