February, 2014

The New Moon on January 30 began the Year of the Horse, a year destined to get things moving again after the more grueling Year of the Snake.  The past year had many of us tangled in convolution and conundrum. (See January's special Cosmic Weather Report.) Now, that we're off and running it's a very good thing to get clear on where you want to go, otherwise the sheer momentum of the coming year may have you running in circles.

2014 is the Year of the Wood Horse, when the underlying structures that your life is based on become tested to see how well they provide stability and motion. These twin themes of stability and motion are not just the main themes of the year but also the basic facts of life in the cosmos -- Earth's motion around the Sun provides the stability of the returning seasons, and Earth's spinning around its own axis provides the gravity that keeps us from being flung into space. Even as we hurtle through space so we remain rooted to the planet. Even as we never return to the same point in cosmos, so we remain anchored to our own essence, the soul purpose of why we're here.

When you anchor into soul purpose you gain the ability to hold steady through the enormous changes of our time, and the big change of our time that wants to happen more than anything is for more and more people to awaken from the Illusion of Normalcy and claim a life rich in love and meaning. The imperative is strong this month to gain clarity as to who you are and why you are here, and put that in motion. (To help you anchor your soul purpose I'm making my annual west coast pilgrimage to Santa Cruz, California toward the end of April and will conduct private sessions. See the sidebar for details.)

At the end of the month Jupiter in Cancer squares Uranus in Aries, which augments the Horse Year themes by constellating the issue of What you belong to and What sets you free. Cancer is tribe, family, and circle of belonging. Cancer's great and often underestimated strength comes from locating your individual purpose into the greater scheme of things. When your circles of home, family, friends and partners align with the macrocosmic meaning of what each of you are truly here to do -- Cancer takes the lead and becomes the natural guiding force to restore the kinship of all life. Aries is the best sign equipped to leave the past behind and open the gateway to the living future that wants to uplift obsolete energies and thought forms.

These planets squaring each other at the end of the first month of the Year of the Horse are like a starting gate compelling you to clarify who you are and what you belong to, so that you can burst out of the gate and leap all hurdles on the way to freedom.  And the surging freedom of a Horse Year is highly contagious; once you begin running clear, free and true, others run with you.
