Mercury is preparing to station retrograde (appear to move backward in the sky) on Thursday, February 6 and will remain in retrograde until February 27th. Mercury retrograde is now so infamous that it is part of mainstream awareness. This is because the effects are clearly visible. Challenges with communications all of kinds, electronics, travel, devices, all things related to computers, and transportation ensue with Mercury retrograde. It’s a period of time where things just don’t go as planned. Knowledge of what is happening helps us use it to optimum advantage instead of working against it.
The keyword for this Mercury retrograde is STILLNESS. Mercury retrograde is the subject of today’s report not just because it is going to be an exceptionally powerful one, but also because the energy is in effect now and relates quite directly to the mission for the month.
Recall that the missions for the months are indicated by the Sabian symbol at the time of the New Moon. This month’s Sabian symbol is “people on a vast staircase graduated upwards.” Wherever we are, we are in place. The notion is to ground yourself firmly in place and build inner power. Holding a position can be a hard thing to do, especially when you feel like you should be running.
For all of his troublemaking, Mercury is aiding us with our mission this month. Mercury stations retrograde at the Sabian symbol of “a petrified forest.”* So Mercury will enact conditions and circumstances where the best (and possibly the only) way to handle things it is to become still. Many things will feel like they are at a standstill. Other things will feel like they are coming off the tracks. This is a time when the well-honed skills of being like a wise owl in a tree are required.
Mercury is conjunct Neptune when it goes retrograde. While Mercury is retrograde, it will be dragging along some of Neptune’s energy like a tail. This will enhance exchanges of spiritual knowledge during the retrograde period. Many, many things are going to come to light during this retrograde. It’s a sea change that only the great Neptune could bring.
The energy starts stalling out after the Moon opposes Mars later today. Begin your practice of being in place and building your internal power. Observe as the chaos swirls. Step out of things and become still. Don’t push ahead. Go onto your own lane and let everything else do its thing. From this position of power lies sanity.
