In previous issues of this newsletter, the seven Uranus-Pluto squares that occur between 2012 and 2015 were briefly introduced. You may recall, the first one happened on June 24, 2012 following the magnificent Venus Transit 2012 that transpired on June 5-6, 2012. The final of the seven will occur in 2015. I am therefore pronouncing 2013 and 2014 as the “Heart of the Metamorphosis.” The next drumbeat, number four (#4), is scheduled for later this week: November 1, 2013.
These drumbeats are indeed stirring things up. So many lives are in chaos, or in dramatic and shocking shifts, and many do not have any idea what is truly going on. I am hearing so many stories from people who are moving through life as best they can, and suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, experience a shocking change of circumstances and abruptly, their lives appear completely altered from the day before. Those of us who are following the movement of the planets have an advantage! And although no one said it would be easy – and these Uranus-Pluto changes may be affecting everyone as dramatically, at least we know how to track the timing and make sense of it all.
During these drumbeats of Uranus and Pluto, the momentum is moving us away from what we have previously known, who we have been and what we have done. Through almost every area of life, in government, in industry, in commerce, in health care, in education and in communications, the old patterns are breaking up and disappearing at lightning speed. Keeping up with it all may challenge some of us, and might prevent us from keeping confirmed reservations for anything we’ve planned. It’s truly a time to stay in the ever-present now and proceed with the old 60s mantra “go with the flow”. After all, it was in the 60s that Uranus and Pluto had their opening encounter of what we are experiencing now as their Second Act. The main difference is that with the conjunction in the 1960s, these energies burst on the scene like a house of fire and we all became caught up in the fervor of it. With the square, occurring now, we are pushing towards the same vital issues and necessary changes, but the square aspect forces us to work a bit harder and pushes us against a wall or mountain that shows stubborn resistance until it finally gives way.
The specific planetary degrees of this square are Uranus at 9+ Aries and Pluto at 9+ Capricorn. These slow-moving outer planets are gradually making their way toward a very tense aspect with the U.S. Sun at 12+ Cancer which will be exact by Spring 2014 when a 4-way cardinal cross lands on the U.S. chart and affects numerous countries around the world. This 4-way cross will involve Mars in Libra, Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn. It’s as though we are all holding on to the walls as best we can while the floor is gradually sinking into the mud- and with the debt crisis still in full swing, there is so much uncertainty in the air.
And it’s more than just a sinking feeling: Uranus and Pluto squaring each other is somewhat reminiscent of the Battle of the Gods and Titans – especially as we witness brutality and arrogance in the political arena. Someone asked me at the onset of these seven drumbeats: Who Will Win? I cavalierly answered: “no one wins if anyone loses”. It made me seriously question the so-called traditional exaltation of Saturn in Libra where responsibility, maturity, cooperation and compromise are supposed to be the order of the day. Unfortunately, 2010 – 2012 was a period when global leaders experienced little progress in spite of the engaging energy.
Now with Saturn in Scorpio, a sign that deals with resources, we are being taken to the deepest depths possible before we see any light of day. Perhaps there is still hope as Jupiter transits through Cancer, where it is in exaltation, and passes over the sign of the U.S. Sun to bring us up from the proverbial gutter again.

The Sabian Symbol for Uranus at 10degrees of Aries: “A Man Teaching New Forms for Old Symbols”. Way to go Uranus, the breakthrough thinker — let’s see if you can teach an old dog new tricks. What does that mean for us? To be careful of staying stuck in old ways, old belief systems, old symbols. If we elect to look at things or try things in new ways, we won’t feel like they are being forced upon us. Creative thinking applied to everyday challenges.
The Sabian Symbol for Pluto at 10 degrees of Capricorn: “An Albatross Feeding from the Hand.” Pluto, god of transformation, takes the form of an albatross. Charitable actions and kindness given, in even small amounts, is the way to find purpose and meaning during this period.
