Lunar Eclipse in Aries ~ October 18th 2013

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian friends! (And a blessed Monday to all my friends around the world!)

We’ve got a couple of events happening in the next week but I wanted to take some time to talk about the Aries Lunar Eclipse that is happening on Friday. Some of you may have seen the post that I made last week on Facebook about some of my own self-reflections on the Eclipse and the nature of justice in my life. This is very much a theme that would help all of us to grow and create more peace in our lives.

So there are three things that we want to look at as we consider the energies of this Lunar Eclipse: the nature of a Lunar Eclipse, its position in the sign of Aries, and the condition of Aries’ ruler; Mars.

So to begin with, Lunar Eclipses reveal to us our inner darkness. When the Moon is eclipsed, it is plunged into the darkness of the earth’s shadow and as a mirror it reflects our own darkness back to us. It shows us where our emotional energies need healing by creating situations in which our emotions go awry. There is usually a theme with each eclipse depending on the sign it occupies at the time.  Regardless of where it is in the sky, with each eclipse, we become acquainted with another one of the skeletons in the closet that we call the subconscious. Each of these skeletons is a facet of ourselves that we are unaware of and is created by a thought or belief we have. We have many of these skeletons and each Lunar Eclipse gives us a chance to meet or interact with one of them. We have many chances to discover these skeletons and indeed some of us consciously seek out these skeletons in the hope that we can empty our closets. What I will say though is that a Lunar Eclipse opens that door wider and more suddenly than most of our life events do and is an opportune time to take stock of how much cleaning our closet needs. The cleaning is done later on through conscious work such as healing, psychotherapy, Etheric surgery, hypnosis and other methods. The Lunar Eclipse is simply the wake up call.

In the sign of Aries, that emotional darkness often manifests itself through aggression, anger, impatience, conflict and a need for justice (of the vigilante style). Aries is the God of War who rushes forth with sword in hand. As the Moon sits in the darkness of the earth’s shadow as she wears the mantle of war, she looks forward to the Sun blazing brightly in the sign of Libra, the scales of justice. Taking up her sword, the Moon slashes, hacks and fights her way to justice. Justice is not something that comes about as a result of previous actions; it is something that must be accomplished by her own hand. And you may notice that you feel the same way. You may feel slighted, abused or victimized and you may feel that justice can only be accomplished by yours hands. As the nature of an Eclipse is very compulsive, feelings of this nature can arise from even the most trivial of circumstances and can be very overwhelming.

A part of this feeling comes about as a result of an opposition between Mars and Neptune. This interaction has bullying, deceit and victimization written all over it. With Mars in Virgo (not a good place for him), he feels that he is not equal to the injustice laid at his feet, but the darkness that arises with the Lunar Eclipse calls forth that vengeful side and he will not settle (Virgos don’t settle) until it is made right. If you find yourself in situations this week where you feel that you have been wronged and that you must make things right, just know that this is one of the skeletons that you need to face. The sudden nature of the emotional energies can make self-control difficult, but I strongly encourage waiting before taking any action. What you may perceive as slights to you in the moment, may reveal themselves to be otherwise after you’ve had some time to cool down.

So I invite you to look at these two things in your life. Where do you feel that injustice has worked its way into your life and how much responsibility do you feel for creating justice in your life?  In my own reflections, I took it upon myself to look at how I relate to justice and how justice is perceived in the world. I found a couple of quotes on justice that gave me cause to stop and ponder on the nature of justice itself and what it is. Justice is a word that arouses passion and fervor in mankind and so I wouldn’t be surprised if you discover that you have some pretty strong views and feelings on the subject. Shakespeare (in the picture above) Malcolm X, Mahatma Gandhi, Aristotle and Plato certainly had their own beliefs and as something for you to ponder on your own time, I would like to share them with you.

So if I can encourage you to do anything for this upcoming Eclipse, I suggest stepping back and becoming an observer of yourself. The energy of this Lunar Eclipse is definitely impulsive but if you can observe your thoughts, feelings and actions as they relate to justice, you can make some definite progress in the realm of self-healing. Allow the energies of the Sun in Libra to help you weigh those thoughts, feelings and actions and discern how those energies need to be corrected. And by all means, should you feel that you are uncertain of what corrective measures would benefit you, I am always an email away!
And if those energies get the better of you here and there, don’t worry about it. Emotions move the swiftest in Aries, and with those emotions hidden from us by the Eclipse, it’s not uncommon to be blindsided. So just be patient with yourself and take as many moments as you need for peace.

May we all emerge from this Eclipse with tidier closets!
