We are having a New Moon in Leo on July 23rd at 9:46am Universal Time. New Moons are the beginning of a new wave of energy influencing the upcoming month. However, the astrological configurations at this time have a stronger influence over the following two weeks.
Mercury is slowing down before going retrograde on August 12th. The weeks leading up to the retrograde is known as the ‘pre-shadow’ period and you may even start to notice some of the common retrograde difficulties as it gets closer. During this period, some of the new decisions, ideas, initiatives, and actions that take place will go through a ‘sorting out’ process during the retrograde and in the weeks following after it finishes on September 5th.
Some things may need to be tweaked, while other things may not work out due to new insights or changes that could come up. Keep that all in mind if you are initiating anything new between now and August 12th, and pay attention to what Mercury retrograde is trying to showing you after it starts.
We are also entering eclipse season as we will be having a Lunar Eclipse on August 7th during this moon cycle as well as a powerful Total Solar Eclipse on August 21st initiating the next moon cycle. Eclipse energies can bring major shifts as well as endings and beginnings in certain areas of our lives. Their influence can start weeks or even months before and last for the following 5-6 months but still have long term significance.
These eclipses overlapping with Mercury retrograde marks a major window of time which will see many of us change course. As we are currently in the lead up to all of this, it is an important part of the astrological backdrop to consider for this lunar cycle and beyond. New Moon Conjunct Mars In Leo
This New Moon occurs less then a day after the Sun entered Leo and therefore it is right on the cusp. As a result, we will also be having the next New Moon in the same sign which is the solar eclipse. This doesn’t happen too often and it really emphasizes the Leo push we are experiencing that is part of the upcoming Solar Eclipse.
Leo is about being the star of our own life through individual self-expression. It is the creator, the performer, and the leader. Our inner Leo is best expressed when our greatness is coming from a heart-centred place. This sign is also associated with generosity, love/romance, playfulness, children, and courage. Leo energies expressed negatively can be egotistical, dramatic, childish, and demanding of attention.
Mars is also in Leo aligned with this New Moon giving this month a theme of action and assertion, which could manifest in some of the ‘Leo ways’ mentioned above. This is strongest for the first week following this New Moon. With Leo being a fire sign, this really brings out the energetic and outward expression of Mars. This energy gives us an extra boost for applying our creative energy or applying ourselves towards anything in which we wish to receive attention for.
Venus opposite Saturn, Mercury Trine Uranus
Venus, the planet of love/lovers, pleasures, friendships, creativity, beauty, and money, is moving towards an opposition with Saturn. This could bring challenges, restrictions, and limitations around these Venus matters and also potentially issues around our commitments or responsibilities related to those things.
Considering that Venus is in Gemini (since July 4th), some people may have been expressing its themes with more variety or in some dualistic way. It’s opposition to Saturn can bring a serious tone if it is necessary for us to get real in regard to any way we have been expressing it negatively. This energy is strongest on July 24th, the day after this New Moon.
Mercury in expressive and creative Leo will also be making a trine to Uranus on the same day. This could be time of great ideas, new developments around communication, and focusing our minds towards doing something innovative or anything to do with technology, science, or even metaphysics.
Jupiter in Libra in Final Square with Pluto in Capricorn
Jupiter has been in and out of a square with Pluto since the Fall. It was strong in November and early spring while it will finish over the next three weeks. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, beliefs, ideals, opinions, and freedom. It has been in Libra since last September until this October, a time in which some people have been experiencing expansiveness in their social connections and relationships overall. However, in a square with Pluto, this could bring about obsessions, tensions, jealousy, or issues around power and control in relation to those things.
Although it is a challenging aspect, it can give us a tremendous boost in our undertakings. Due to this being the final square that these planets make with each other, there may be some concluding factor in relation to some of things that began in November and whatever played out during March/April.
Making Intentions And Things To Consider
In what ways can you best express your creative potential? What are your true passions? Is the Universe asking you to take some sort of lead? Do you have a hard time coming from the heart and what can you do to help that? These are just some examples of what your intentions can be based around but not limited to them.
It is important to keep in mind that even though these next few weeks are a time for action and potentially taking big steps, we need to also understand that there will be changes over these next few months. Your actions during this time will ultimately help you get to where you need to be, but things may not go the way you currently have in mind. Therefore it is also a good idea to emphasize your intentions around your end goals in regards to what is going on in your life at this time.
The exact time of this New Moon will be at 9:46am Universal Time on July 22nd. You can click here to find out what that is in your time zone. It is best to make your intentions as close to the New Moon is possible, but they can even be done within the first 24 hours following. However, the best time for making intentions would be within the first half hour following or just prior.
