Thousands of people have taken to the streets in the Taiwanese capital Taipei to demand the resignation of President Ma Ying-jeou.


The protesters were furious at the policies of Ma’s government that include economic mismanagement and illegal wiretapping of legislators.
 

“People have been suffering these days, we simply hope that our voice could be heard by Ma,” said the organizer of a third demonstration in which over 1,000 people participated.

Centre-right ministers in Italy’s fragile coalition government resigned Saturday, throwing the country into a fresh political crisis after Prime Minister Enrico Letta issued what they called an “unacceptable” ultimatum.

All five ministers of the People of Freedom (PDL) party took the decision at the urging of leader Silvio Berlusconi, said Angelino Alfano, Italy’s deputy premier and PDL party secretary.

U.S. Official: Russia Agrees To Resolution On Syria

Russia, along with the four other permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, have agreed on a resolution concerning Syria's chemical weapons, the U.S. said today.

The draft resolution, a senior State Department official said in a statement, calls for oversight of Syria's surrender of chemical weapons and calls for "consequences" if Bashar Assad fails to comply.

British teaching unions to stage strike over working conditions

A series of regional strikes are to be held in Britain beginning in October involving the country’s two leading teaching unions amid coalition government’s fresh attacks on teachers’ working conditions and the state education system, it has been announced.

As the new school year begins, teachers are totally dissatisfied with the government’s schemes targeting their jobs, payments and pension over the past two years.

According to top-secret documents provided to The Hindu by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, billions of pieces of information were collected from its telephone and internet networks just in 30 days.

The American spy agency carried out intelligence gathering activities in India using at least two major programs, The Hindu report said.

Former US intelligence analyst Edward Snowden is in such danger that he cannot even visit or talk to his family members, his lawyer Anatoly Kucherena says.

Kucherena did not explain what kind of danger his client was facing, but many US officials have refused to rule out the possibility of snatching the whistleblower and returning him to the United States to face criminal prosecution.

DHAKA, Sept 23 (Reuters) - More than 100 Bangladeshi garment factories were forced to shut on Monday as thousands of workers protested to demand a $100 a month minimum wage and about 50 people were injured in clashes, police and witnesses said.

Workers took to the streets for a third day on Monday, blocking major roads and attacking some vehicles in the Gazipur and Savar industrial zones, on the outskirts of the capital, Dhaka.

“We don’t want this globalized economic system which does us so much harm,” he reportedly continued. “Men and women have to be at the center [of economic systems] as God wants, not money.”

The pope laid blame for the Italian economic downturn at the feet of the world economy, saying “It is not a problem of Italy and Europe … It is the consequence of a world choice, of an economic system that brings about this tragedy, an economic system that has at its center an idol which is called money.”
