Several studies have been conducted focusing on marijuana’s potential to treat and ease symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis –  a disease that affects the central nervous system, often causing daily pain and difficulty moving, speaking, and swallowing. A new study adds even more insight into how MS patients can use marijuana, finding that cannabinoids within the vilified healing plant can help treat multiple sclerosis-like diseases by preventing inflammation in the brain and spinal cord.

Global Marijuana Prohibition Crumbling, Led by Uruguay

Silver's picture

By: Gary Gibson, 12/12/2013

Uruguay became the first country to legalize marijuana completely yesterday. We're not just talking about "decriminalizing" it, or allowing recreational use while still prosecuting pot's cultivation and selling. The government will still limit amounts to six plants per home per year. And as with alcohol purchases in the US, selling pot in Uruguay will require a license.

Making Your Own Medicinal Cannabis/Hemp Oil

marijuana cannabis 263x164 Risky Healing: Making Your Own Medicinal Cannabis/Hemp Oil

The US government labels cannabis a ‘schedule one narcotic’ along with heroin and LSD; they also say it has no medicinal value. This is quite laughable considering the government itself holds US patents on cannabis constituents (namely marinol synthesized from THC), showing how it plans to capitalize on the plant’s known healing qualities just like pharmaceutical companies. In fact, one patent filed in February of 2001, #6630507, is entitled “Cannabinoids as Antioxidands & Neuroprotectants.” Sounds pretty ‘medicinal’ to me. More than 77% of American agree.

Pet owners increasingly using medical marijuana to help their pets feel better

Natural News, By: Jonathan Benson, 11/27/2013

CBS New York reports that veterinary cannabis use is on the rise across all segments of society, and particularly among pet owners whose pets have severe or even terminal illnesses that do not respond to conventional treatment. Major conditions like cancer, many pet owners are finding, respond quite well to cannabis use when nothing else does. And unlike conventional treatments, cannabis treatment does not cause any harmful side effects.

marijuana brain cancer 263x166 4 Studies Proving that Marijuana can Treat Brain Cancer

We are living in exciting times in regards to cannabis. As public opinion on marijuana is changing, the laws are following suit, and we are seeing more and more studies evaluating the benefits of this healing plant. Some of the most remarkable research is on the topic of cannabis and the treatment of cancer, especially brain cancer.

Repeatedly, we are seeing that the various medicinal compounds in cannabis could be used to halt tumor growth, kill tumor cells, and do so without the negative side effects so often associated with conventional cancer treatments. Those who oppose the use of marijuana as medicine are not looking at the growing body of research which has proven its value. If they were, they would have to admit defeat.

Feds raid Denver-area marijuana dispensaries and grow operations

Seven weeks before the nation's first retail marijuana shops open in Colorado, federal authorities Thursday morning raided more than a dozen Denver metro area marijuana facilities. In the largest federal raid on Colorado marijuana facilities since medical marijuana became legal, federal law enforcement agents with an assist from local police officers executed search and seizure warrants at multiple dispensaries and cultivation facilities throughout the region — at least a dozen in Denver alone. At one raid in Boulder, a pile of seized marijuana lay in the snow like Christmas trees until a front-end loader scooped it up. At one of the largest dispensaries in the state — VIP Cannabis in Denver — broken glass from a shattered front window littered the parking lot while masked agents hauled boxes of evidence into a U-Haul truck. Police turned customers away. And the dispensary's website said it would be closed on Thursday and Friday.

As new studies are released showing just how miraculous the compounds of marijuana are, the argument for legalized marijuana or at least legal access to medicinal marijuana seems to build a little more each month. One new study, from researchers with Saint George’s University of London and published in Anticancer Research, reveals how various compounds within cannabis are able to work together to kill human leukemia cells.

The study looked at three non-psychoactive cannabinoids, including cannabidiol, cannabigerol, and cannabigevarin. These compounds were tested on two leukemia cell lines where they acted synergistically to fight the cancerous cells.

Marijuana Miracle: 5 Exciting New Discoveries About Pot

Silver's picture

The Nation, By: Martin A. Lee, 11/06/2013

For many years, the federal government has subsidized studies designed to prove the negative effects of marijuana, while blocking inquiry into its potential benefits. Ironically, the government’s steadfast search for harm has yielded remarkable scientific insights that explain why cannabis is such a versatile remedy and why it is the most sought-after illicit substance on the planet.

Cannabis and the unique chemical compounds produced by the plant, called cannabinoids, have been at the center of one of the most exciting—and underreported—developments in modern science. Research on marijuana’s effects led directly to the discovery of a molecular signaling system in the human brain and body, the endocannabinoid system, which plays a crucial role in regulating a broad range of physiological processes: hunger, sleep, inflammation, stress, blood pressure, body temperature, glucose metabolism, bone density, intestinal fortitude, reproductive fertility, circadian rhythms, mood and much more.
