AMS Event #92-2014 - Heat Map

A large, bright, long duration fireball was seen and reported by hundreds of witnesses last night across New England (January 12th 2014, 5:20pm EST – 22:20 UT.) Witnessed reported the brightness greater than the full moon. The fireball was seen from primarily Connecticut, but witnesses from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island also reported seeing the fireball.

Late Season Snowfall Strikes New England & Upstate New York

Heavy snow has fallen over the higher elevations (and valleys as well) this Memorial Day weekend in Upsate New York and New England. UPDATE: Whiteface Mountain in New York’s Adirondack Mountains (elev 4,867’) has reported an incredible 24-34” of snow since Friday and Greensboro, Vermont, located at just 904’ of elevation 4.5”. How unusual is this?

Latest Snowfall Totals

It would appear that snowflakes were observed in upstate New York and New England as low as 750’ on May 24-26 with general measurable accumulations at elevations from 1,500’ and up. Above 4,000’ heavy snowfall in the 6-24” range has fallen in the Adirondack Mountains of New York and Vermont. Here is a review of some of the snow reports (official and unofficial) but keep in mind these are not final totals or verified yet:

BOSTON -- New Englanders were preparing for another messy day of snow as they welcomed spring's unseasonable arrival.

Forecasts called for as much as 16 inches of snow in parts of northern New England through Wednesday morning, bringing slippery road conditions. Snow was expected to taper off in other locations.

"Ukko has delivered a foot or more of snow to parts of five states in the Northeast including New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine," said weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce. "Boston's storm total of 7.2 inches pushed their seasonal total over the 60-inch mark (63.1 inches)."
