This commonly overlooked superfood protects the body from nuclear fallout, kills a wide range of cancers, and keeps the arteries unclogged – to name but a few, experimentally confirmed ways in which the apple awakens your inner physician.

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

This age old saying has never rang with greater promise and authority than it does today. As in the modern era, doctors bring with them a battery of tests, drugs, and interventions, all of which carry unintended, adverse health risks that often outweigh their purported benefits, and are therefore best avoided whenever possible.

Is there anything that green tea can’t do? A Japanese study found that consuming five cups of green tea each day could work to prevent the development of cancer. They say the study took place over a ten year period and found that green tea was remarkably effective in cancer prevention. Needless to say, the green tea and cancer relationship is certainly not a new one.

The surprising discovery of a massive outburst in a neighboring galaxy is giving astronomers a tantalizing look at what likely is a powerful belch by a gorging black hole at the galaxy’s center.

January 8, 2013 – SPACE – “The discovery was entirely serendipitous. Our observations were spread over a few years, and when we looked at them, we found that one galaxy had changed over that time from being placid and quiescent, to undergoing a hugely energetic outburst at the end,” said Robert Minchin, of Arecibo Observatory, who presented the research. The scientists were using the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) 305-meter William E. Gordon Telescope at Arecibo for their study when they discovered the outburst in NGC 660, a spiral galaxy 44 million light-years distant in the constellation Pisces.

January 8, 2013 – MEXICO – Yesterday afternoon, the day of Epiphany, a violent explosion of Volcán de Fuego de Colima Mexico has affected causing a high alert in the Mexican civil protection system with the immediate evacuation of about 3,000 tourists inside the National Park Nevado de Colima. In locations around the volcano, there has been an intense rain of ashes, and from the summit of the mountain has run raised a cloud of lava and eruptive material over 2 km high.

At the time there were no damages nor was required the evacuation of the countries closest to the volcano, from which we have only been able to enjoy the unique spectacle of nature, but in the next few days is not impossible that the eruption could intensify , although at the moment it is quiet. As a precaution, the National Park is closed to visitors indefinitely. –Metoweb (translated)
