Rusty "Rains Out" Over West of Australia

Rusty, the former tropical cyclone, was fading fast as it spread tropical rain southward over Western Australian.

In its wake, the storm left some tree and structural damage, as well as swollen rivers.

Australia breaks hottest summer record

The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed that Australia has just experienced its hottest summer on record.

The bureau says the previous hottest summer - measured by average day and night figures from across the nation - was in 1997-98.

Twin waterspouts were captured on video nearing the coast of Benidorm, a town along the east coast of Alicante, Spain, on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 28, 2013.

"There's a lot of cold aloft over relatively warm water, making the atmosphere unstable," AccuWeather Expert Senior Meteorologist Jim Andrews said. This type of unstable pattern can set the stage for the development of waterspouts.

Ex-cyclone Rusty causes Pilbara flooding

THE remnants of tropical cyclone Rusty are causing major flooding in the Pilbara catchment areas and river levels are expected to remain high for days.

Around 4pm WST, two hours after all cyclone warnings were cancelled, emergency services said minor to major flood levels had been reached in the Nullagine, Oakover, Coongan and De Grey rivers, with further peaks possible in coming days.

The 4.8 inches of snow for the day at O'Hare broke the previous record snowfall for Feb. 26 in Chicago, a record set in 1935.

Stromboli (Eolian Islands, Italy): A new lava flow has started to descend the Sciara del Fuoco. Judging from webcam images, it has probably reached about 500 m elevation, but seems to be relatively well alimented.
