At least 12 hurt in massive pileup on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - A 21-vehicle pileup closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near downtown Oklahoma City for several hours on Tuesday morning..

An Oklahoma state trooper told KOCO News there was a series of about 10 collisions on the interstate near I-35 a little before 3 a.m. CT Tuesday as overnight drizzle turned to freezing rain in the area.

A landslide warning has been issued by the Met Office, as continued heavy downpours sparked fears of unstable cliff faces.

Boxing Day walkers were urged to take extra care in "dangerous conditions" with flooding set to worsen across parts of England and Wales on Wednesday.

Christmas Day Tornado Outbreak Wreaks Havoc

MOBILE, Ala. — Twisters hopscotched across the Deep South, and, along with brutal, straight-line winds, knocked down countless trees, blew the roofs off homes and left many Christmas celebrations in the dark. Holiday travelers in the nation's much colder midsection battled treacherous driving conditions from freezing rain and blizzard conditions from the same fast-moving storms.

As predicted, conditions were volatile throughout the day and into the night with tornado warnings still out for some parts of Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The storms were blamed for three deaths, several injuries, and left homes from Louisiana to Alabama damaged.

Tropical Cyclone 04A expected to make landfall in Somalia

According to latest Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) report, Tropical Cyclone 04A is located approximately 280 nm south of Cape Guardafui, Somalia, and is moving southwestward at 12 knots over the past six hours. Animated multispectral satellite imagery shows a fully exposed low-level circulation center (LLCC) with a lack of deep convection. Dry continental air is being pulled into the system.

The system will continue to weaken below warning threshold of 35 knots in the next 12 hours as it tracks southwestward due to the unfavorable environment.

Quinta heads for northern Palawan, 14 areas under Storm Signal 1

GFP Note: This weather system has two names - Quinta and Wukong. It is also being variously referred to as a storm, a cyclone, and a depression.

Tropical Depression Quinta continued to move west at 24 kph and is expected to bring rains to Northern Palawan, PAGASA said Wednesday afternoon.
 
The state weather agency also said in its Twitter account that Quinta will make its last landfall in Coron, Palawan, on Wednesday night, between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Two swimmers enjoy the warm weather in southern Germany

While the chance of Christmas sunburn remains pretty low, parts of Germany are experiencing the highest temperatures ever recorded on Christmas Eve. Meanwhile, in parts of Eastern Europe, brutal cold has killed dozens.

Thoughts of a white Christmas were far from the minds of Germans in southern Germany on Monday, where the mercury topped 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) in some places, making it the warmest Christmas Eve since records began over a hundred years ago.
