With people spending more than 90 percent of their time indoors, it makes sense that air quality matters. There are various factors in many people’s homes working against this, however. From furnishings and upholstery to synthetic building materials and cleaning products, toxic compounds are being emitted all around you. There’s also the concern of pollen, bacteria, and molds that need to be considered. And all of this, combined with poorly-ventilated spaces, such as a windows that have been painted shut in your apartment, it’s incredibly important that you become aware of ways to combat all that junk being inhaled.

Enter houseplants. Though you may only have them to better your green thumb, or decorate your home with a sense of nature — which are both great reasons — they’re also extremely beneficial for improving air quality. According to NASA, plants’ ability to purify air makes them “nature’s life support system.”

In the Peruvian Amazon, indigenous healers called Onanya teach visitors the way of the psychedelic drug as a therapeutic hallucinogenic brew. It’s been used for thousands of years by locals, but has become a hot topic in modern times due to a global shift in consciousness to break from this idea that we should cover our wounds with synthetic medicine rather than heal them fully from within.

Governments and international organizations have been caught on numerous occasions trying to hide their involvement with sex rings, rape, and pedophilia, but despite their efforts, the public is starting to wake up to this type of high-level corruption.

It’s not just pimps and escaped convicts involved like the media wants you to think; oftentimes, it’s the people you’d least expect, or even respect the most: the politicians, the elite, the wealthy businessmen, and in some cases, even your friends and family.

Retired Army General James Grazioplene, who worked in the Pentagon and as the Vice President of DynCorp, is currently facing six rape charges. If the name DynCorp rings a bell, it’s could be because we’ve reported on the private military contractor’s international child sex scandals before.

There’s a lot of controversy happening in your kitchen. While we tend to focus on how the foods we eat can work for or against our health, it’s truly so much more than that. How we cook our foods and how we store our foods has a lot of weight on our well-being as well. Plastic wrap, for instance, rose to fame in the 1950s, sold in rolls and used primarily for wrapping food. It’s since become a staple in many people’s kitchens.

For decades there’s been controversy surrounding plastic wrap, but now research is supporting the concerns. For instance, the phthalate chemicals used in the product, were found in a study of nearly 3,000 children in The Journal of Pediatrics to raise levels of blood pressure in children between the ages of six and 19.

Google Confirms That Their Contractors Suppressed Alternative Media

Being a part of and a voice within the “alternative news” network, I’ve had a front row seat to just how many changes and how much censorship has occurred since we started, all the way to the present day. Although I do not prefer the name “alternative news,” it’s simply just news, nothing ‘alternative’ about it. It’s up to the people themselves to examine the sources and decide if it resonates with them or not.

The problem today is that we have too many people reading headlines, and not enough people examining sources and thinking for themselves. We rely on a handful of corporations that own approximately 90 percent of major information sources to give us our information, thus turning off our critical thinking and action caps and using our gift of intelligence to figure things out. We let someone else do it for us, and as a result we’ve become dependent on them for information. Anytime this source is simply questioned, some people can still have a fit.

Cancelled or banned TED talks are nothing new. When coming across information, no matter how much evidence it has behind it, any topic that challenges the current accepted framework of knowledge will always encounter a harsh resistance. For example, in 1900, Lord Kelvin said that “there is nothing new to be discovered in physics now. All that remains is more and more precise measurement.”  It was only five years later when Einstein published his paper on special relativity, which forced the scientific community to open up to an alternate view regarding the nature of reality. Scientists and new discoveries were and are still scorned by those in power, a classic example would be Galileo and the Catholic Church, or when we realized the Earth is round, but have things really changed that much?

Good News For Elephants: China’s Price Of Ivory Has Plummeted

China’s ivory trade has wreaked havoc on the elephant population. Approximately 35,000 elephants are killed annually, largely in part due to the illegal international ivory trade demanded in China primarily. The need to reduce demand for ivory is vital for stopping the endangered Asian elephant and threatened African elephant.

But it looks like we may finally be seeing a breakthrough. As China prepares to impose a domestic ban on the ivory trade, a new report reveals that the price of raw ivory is falling. This is particularly good for African elephants, who have been subject to poaching by the thousands for their tusks, which are then smuggled into China.

According to Save the Elephants researchers, while the wholesale price in early 2014 was $2,100 per kilogram, it had dropped  to $730 per kilogram by last month.

Inner Earth Is Teeming With Life: Multicellular Animals Discovered Miles Below Earth’s Surface

A recent article by the Smithsonian shed light on the fact that more than a mile below the surface, our planet supports diverse creatures that could give clues about life across the solar system. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as it wasn’t long ago when NASA scientists held a press conference expressing that “Mars is the planet most like Earth.” In the past, Mars had an extensive atmosphere with a huge ocean two thirds the size of the Northern hemisphere. They explained that, “Something happened, and that Mars suffered a major climate change and lost its surface water.” Here is a lecture given by X-NASA scientist Dr. John Brandenburg, who was the Deputy Manager for the Clementine Mission to the Moon, explaining how they have evidence that there was intelligent life existing on Mars at the time.
