5 Things Worth Letting Go of Before You Die

1. The need to believe your reality

Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, think about your feet on the floor, the sounds in the room, the sounds outside, sitting here reading this page… everything you can perceive right now is a thought.

Is this at first hard to accept? Run with it for a moment…

The need to believe your reality may be restricting your reality, and when our minds are full there is little room for anything else.

From the moment we are born we take in a colossal amount of experience. The outside world is reality and we assume that what we experience is real because, well, of course it’s real. By the time we reach middle age we are chock full of ideas, beliefs and perceptions. Not only about ourselves, but the whole world around us.

The good news is that if you are upholding a false reality in thought, it can be let go of. While this is somewhat easy with our conscious thoughts, it is far less obvious embedded within the countless observations we have collated over the course of our lifetime.

Belief, by it’s very nature, is an after-affect of perception, not a precursor.

Having No Expectations: The Secret to Freedom and Happiness

It is a most liberating experience when you are able to live life with an attitude of no expectations. When you have expectations, you have preconceived ideas of how things should be that you are attached to. Expectation creates fear because you think what you desire may or may not happen. Free of expectations, you can just go with the flow of the universe and not be affected by the outcomes that you encounter. Every outcome can serve to move you towards greater realization of your desires.

When you are attached to an outcome, you expect things to happen at a certain time in a certain way. But when it does not happen at the expected time or in the expected manner, then what results is a feeling of fear. Having expectations about how your desires should manifest will produce negative feelings when your expectations are not met. That is why it is better to act on your intention without expectations about the when and how it manifests.

What Do You Care What Other People Think?

What would your life be like if you did not care what other people thought of you? If you were completely independent of people’s opinions, good or bad, and would go about your day without so much as a single self-conscious decision. It would be wonderful freedom, of course. You would feel free to do what you wanted, and have a clarity of mind that comes with not being constantly preoccupied with thinking about the judgment of those around you.

Looking at our current state of affairs, it would seem that the culture we humans have created for ourselves is driven by “what other people think,” the tension between the desire for approval and the fear of disapproval. Businesses, families, friendships, sports, politics; everything is, if not completely driven by this tension, at the very least heavily influenced by it. And this we can see very clearly when looking for it, how much our motivation for doing things arises in the concern for what the world thinks. It is a feeling that your very existence relies on other people’s judgment of you; that you exist only as a mental image in other people’s minds. Which is mostly unconscious, of course, because when we drag it up to the surface and into the light we can see clearly just how insane it really is.

13 Practices of an Awakened Individual

Tog-me Zong-po lived nearly 800 years ago yet his 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva is still considered a pinnacle list of traits a person who wishes to become enlightened for the benefit of all beings has. The following 13 practices (which I’ve put into simpler terms to make them easier to understand) are what I consider the most practical and helpful out of the 37 and by applying these practices to our daily lives we can make a lasting positive impression on the collective consciousness of humanity… a positive influence that is deeply needed in this time of transition from the old order to the new paradigm. Some of these are not easy but for those of us that want to embark on the journey to awakened enlightenment, these are practices that will lead us there.

7 Ways to Open and Activate Your Heart

Every cause of disease first begins with an imbalance in the body’s energy systems, specifically, the interaction between how the heart communicates with the brain and the body. Fix that and there is no disease, ever. The heart can produce an electrical field 100 times greater than the brain and a magnetic field 5000 times greater. Which one are you using to heal?

Emotions are vibrations which influence consistently our reality. We not only think and work our way through a day, meeting, assignment, but also feel and believe our way through it. The outcome depends on both.

Simply put, the number one cause of health is your energetic and emotional state. How you connect emotionally to your overall wellness and wellbeing is more important than any supplement, food, exercise or health treatment. There is only one cause of disease and that has to do with the energy and frequency imbalances that exist within your body. Rectify that, and disease cannot exist…it would be impossible.

On Freedom

And an orator said, “Speak to us of Freedom.”
And he answered:
At the city gate and by your fireside I have seen you prostrate yourself and worship your own freedom,
Even as slaves humble themselves before a tyrant and praise him though he slays them.
Ay, in the grove of the temple and in the shadow of the citadel I have seen the freest among you wear their freedom as a yoke and a handcuff.
And my heart bled within me; for you can only be free when even the desire of seeking freedom becomes a harness to you, and when you cease to speak of freedom as a goal and a fulfillment.
You shall be free indeed when your days are not without a care nor your nights without a want and a grief,
But rather when these things girdle your life and yet you rise above them naked and unbound.
And how shall you rise beyond your days and nights unless you break the chains which you at the dawn of your understanding have fastened around your noon hour?

8 Things My Soul Recently Remembered

Humor as a Spiritual Practice

I recently realized that in general my sense of humor tends to deepen in stride with my sadness. A renewed sense of laughter and playfulness may be the most valuable gift received from surviving bouts of severe depression. It also supplies a strengthened coping mechanism for any future trips to the underworld.

Hug Some Animals

Seriously hug your dog or cat. Say sweet things to the crow dive bombing your head. Cause if a crow is dive bombing your head you are out of sync and should thank them for kindly reminding you that you are out of sync. Thank you Crow of last week for dive bombing my head. I didn’t want to eat that crappy sandwich you made me drop anyway. Love you, Brother Crow!

15 Simple Sentences With the Power to Change Your Life

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creative.” ~ Charles Mingus

Simplicity is the elixir that distills the truth. Complicated, complex matters can almost always be broken down to a level that allows child and layman alike a crack at decoding them even further. There is nothing noble about hiding behind a smoke-screen of academese or posturing for those not in the know. Such is the mark of an immature person, no matter how intelligent they may appear to some. The wise man, instead, never fails to simplify, and it is this that makes him truly intelligent. Here, then, are 15 simple sentences with the power to change your life. {WP}

1. Never compare your weaknesses to other people’s strengths...

Smell, Pheremones & The Subconscious Influence of Scent

The human sense of smell is often seen as insignificant, dismissed as a distant also-ran to our keen eyesight or sensitive hearing. But this sense is keener and more influential on our species than many people realize. (“The Hidden Power of Scent” by Josie Glausiusz, in Scientific American Mind, August/September 2008:38)

Chemistry started out as “alchemy” (a little science, a whole lotta mysticism). In the end (no matter whose end you’re trying to end up in!) it still comes down to knowing – and sowing – a little “chemistry.” Smelling is chemistry.

The nasal cavity has roughly twelve million odor-detecting cells. Each odor-detecting cell has one of about 350 different olfactory receptor proteins and is specialized for sensing a limited number of dormant odor molecules.

These receptor proteins work in different combinations to enable people to detect at least ten thousand distinct scents.
