Brief Geomangetic Storm
The Solar Wind did reach near 700 km/s at this helped stir up a brief G1 Level Geomagnetic Storm at high latitudes during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The high speed stream was the result of a Solar Sector Boundary Crossing.

Earth is entering a high-speed solar wind stream, and this is causing geomagnetic activity at high latitudes. First contact with the stream on May 22nd turned the sky over Cumbria, United Kingdom, deep purple:

"The sky was bright because of twilight, but we could still see these faint auroras," says photographer Jon Cooper.
So far the solar wind has not caused a full-fledged geomagnetic storm, but this could change during the next 24 hours. NOAA forecasters estimate a 15% to 20% chance of storms around the poles as the solar wind continues to blow.
Thousands of Mozambique Tilapia fish found dead on the river banks at Hatvalan, India

The problem of fish dying in large numbers has come to the fore of the banks of the Mula-Mutha (Bheema) rivers again. Fish have been found dead along the banks of the Mula-Mutha because of rising pollution and the latest in the series was recorded at Hatvalan near the Pune-Daund border last week.
Since last week, thousands of Mozambique Tilapia fish were found dead on the river banks at Hatvalan in Daund division, about 76 km from Pune.
The fish apparently died because of thick blackish water flowing in the river bed. Ironically, Mozambique Tilapia is considered as one of the most resilient species of fish, known to withstand unfriendly environmental conditions.
Record flood of Rio Negro, the largest Amazon tributary

The largest Amazon River tributary, Rio Negro has marked its highest historical level following weeks of heavy rain. The Rio Negro crested last Wednesday, registering 97.70 feet (29.78 meters) in Manaus. The top narrowly eclipsed the high mark of 97.67, set in 2009. The worst hit is city of Manaus, Brazil, with population of 1.6 million people. Manaus has been hit by the worst flooding in 100 years, crippling the local economy and displacing thousands of families in the country’s northwestern region. Some neighborhoods have been partially submerged and homes have been invaded by water.

Tropical Storm SANVU is on track to become the first typhoon in 2012

Tropical Storm 03W named as Sanvu, is on track to become the first typhoon of the year. According to latest JTWC warnings, the storm is located approximately 545nm south of island Iwo To and is currently moving northwestward at speed of 8 knots.

Magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Hokkaido, Japan on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 15:02:25 UTC. Epicenter was located 109 km (68 miles) NNE (26 degrees) of Hachinohe, Honshu, 120 km (74 miles) ESE (111 degrees) of Hakodate, Hokkaido, 129 km (80 miles) ENE (61 degrees) of Aomori, Honshu and 666 km (414 miles) NNE (17 degrees) of Tokyo (41.378N 142.073E). According to USGS the depth of epicenter was 40.7 km (25.3 miles).
