Former Fijian Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase has been sentenced to a year in jail for corruption.
Laisenia Qarase was Fiji's last elected prime minister
He was found guilty of nine charges involving the abuse of office and failure in discharging his duty when he served as a director of a government investment company in the 1990s.
The 71-year-old became Fiji's last elected leader in 2000, before being ousted in a military coup in 2006.

You can make your own organic bug spray from kitchen leftovers! Simply save your onion skins, peels and ends then refrigerate in an empty margarine-sized tub or ziplock bag until the container is full. Once you have enough, place the onion pieces in a pail and fill with warm water. Soak for a few days, up to a week. You can keep this on the patio in the sun to steep but this is optional. After one week, strain the onion bits out and store the onion water in spray bottles.
Bury the onion bits around plants that are prone to aphids, spiders and other pests. Just spray both house and garden plants with the water to fight aphids and pests. You can also mix your garlic trimmings in with the onion pieces, bugs hate garlic too!

I previously wrote a message about hope being an illusion, and it got some rather polarized reactions. Some people enjoyed it, while others felt very threatened by it. It seems this is something that needs to be discussed further, as I feel it's a subject that people haven't fully looked at. Our society teaches that hope is a "good thing" and many people have just accepted this without really looking deeper.
Now a person with an emotional attachment to hope isn't going to see what I'm saying here very clearly. As with other attachments, when it is threatened, the being usually goes into defense mode and is more concerned with protecting the attachment than letting it go or really looking at why it's there. If a person didn't defend their attachments, they wouldn't be there in the first place.
What is hope really? Am I incorrect in saying it's simply a desire for a better future? Is that not all that hope is, a desire? Hope is simply a desire dressed up in fancy clothing, and made to seem bigger or more important than other desires. As many Masters have said before, all desire is illusion and desire is the root of suffering. Most people desire a "better world", so why aren't we there yet? The problem with desires is that they only manifest the experience of desiring. When you say "I desire this", you get exactly what you stated, a desire for something. It doesn't give you the object of your desire, only the experience of desiring that thing. Desire is the slow and difficult way to manifestation.
People of all faiths are tried in their lives, questioned by others about their beliefs and convictions. They are asked, “How do you Know your faith to be correct, if your scriptures are indeed the word of God, if your religion is the Only TRUE religion.”
People of every faith will have their own rebuttals, answering in fear of being considered foolish, or strongly, with conviction will they Know their faith is Pure Truth.
So who’s right? And whoever thinks They are Right, how can they tell another upright, charitable, loving, giving soul that simply because they were born into separate families with different faiths and sacred texts that the other person, as pure of heart, is Wrong? By what measure can we as seekers Know the One True Faith? Is there One?
