LIKE some people who might rather not admit it, wolves faced with a scarcity of potential sexual partners are not beneath lowering their standards. It was desperation of this sort, biologists reckon, that led dwindling wolf populations in southern Ontario to begin, a century or two ago, breeding widely with dogs and coyotes. The clearance of forests for farming, together with the deliberate persecution which wolves often suffer at the hand of man, had made life tough for the species. That same forest clearance, though, both permitted coyotes to spread from their prairie homeland into areas hitherto exclusively lupine, and brought the dogs that accompanied the farmers into the mix.

Interbreeding between animal species usually leads to offspring less vigorous than either parent—if they survive at all. But the combination of wolf, coyote and dog DNA that resulted from this reproductive necessity generated an exception. The consequence has been booming numbers of an extraordinarily fit new animal (see picture) spreading through the eastern part of North America. Some call this creature the eastern coyote. Others, though, have dubbed it the “coywolf”. Whatever name it goes by, Roland Kays of North Carolina State University, in Raleigh, reckons it now numbers in the millions.

God said:

Now is time for you to honor yourself and save yourself from the waste of time which does not even exist. You have been scammed, beloved. Come, soar the Heavens with Me. Let’s start a Journey of Surrender. Let Us be on Our way to a new Camera of Life. Have you not had enough of the other, this quandary of the so-called past?

Let’s take a Journey to the Stars. Let’s roll the Movie Reel of Life Back, and start over. Let’s hear a different tune, a milder tune. Do not back-track. Start anew and anew and anew. What is all the Present about anyhow?

Be glad you are you. Whatever you may imagine life is about, imagine more. To imagine more, you must empty more. Let not your thoughts keep you back. Let a vacuum fill you in on new terms. No sitting back on your laurels. The Present just now is no longer the present. The minute the Present seems to occur, it is now relegated to the past. The Future comes in front of your eyes soon enough.

Nowhere is the disconnect between science and spirit felt more intimately than in matters of mental health.

We can speak empirically on this by saying things like, “America spends over $113 billion a year on mental health treatment,” or “depression affects over 14.8 million adults,” but, cold data marginalizes actual human experience, so if you’re suffering, this doesn’t really help much.

The statistical view does, however, tell us that mental illness is epidemic in our culture, that an enormous economy has risen around the mainstream medical approaches to treating mental illness, and that this industry does not appear to be effective in reversing the growing epidemic of mental illness.

There are various active conscious groups on the internet, and it doesn’t take much to find one to which you can contribute. No matter what unique beliefs you hold, chances are you can find a group that suits your needs and helps you grow into the socially and spiritually aware activist so many people strive to be.

It’s great that there are so many groups out there with different philosophies, and the only downside is that they remain separate from each other. Their division could be caused by the fact that their beliefs and the things they strive for are so different, but I think the main cause is that they really haven’t tried to connect.

Every group is so secure in what it’s doing that it hasn’t taken the time to branch out and connect with other socially/spiritually aware groups who have different beliefs but strive for change in similar ways, and in my opinion, our next step will be to unite the various groups with respect for our differences and commonalities.

We’re all doing great on our own, but could you imagine how strong we’d be if we brought our groups together? We don’t all have to do or believe the same things to work together with the mutual goal of making the world a better place, and this next step doesn’t just apply to spiritual or ‘conscious’ groups.
