The executive director of a troubled $3 billion cancer-fighting effort in Texas has submitted his resignation letter amid escalating scrutiny over the management of the nation's second-biggest pot of cancer research dollars, the agency announced Tuesday.

California Parent 'Paul M.' Wins Victory For Medical Marijuana Users

LOS ANGELES -- An appeals court released a Southern California father who is a medical marijuana user from court-mandated parental supervision, making a milestone distinction between pot "use" and "abuse."

The California Court of Appeals overturned a lower court's decision to place "Paul M.," the father of toddler "Drake M." under the supervision of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, a mandate that had meant required drug counseling, parenting classes and random drug testing for the father. The appeals court ruled that medical marijuana use alone does not constitute child abuse or put children at risk.

Frank Morrocco, Ex-Convict, Claims He Intentionally Got Arrested To Receive Healthcare

America's broken healthcare system drove one cancer patient to break the law last month.

Frank J. Morrocco, 57, who had previously spent 20 years behind bars, claims that he intentionally shoplifted so that he could go back to prison and receive healthcare, the Buffalo News reports. Suffering from a rare form of leukemia, Morrocco said he had no other way to gain access to the expensive treatment that he needs.

On Nov. 26, Morrocco stole about $23 worth of items from a Wegmans in Amherst, N.Y., making sure the act was obvious to both store employees and customers. He was arrested and later charged for shoplifting and violating his parole.

 

HSBC to pay $1.9bn money-laundering fine (Video)

Europe's biggest bank, HSBC, will pay $1.92bn to settle a money-laundering probe by authorities in the United States, the bank has confirmed.

The probe of the British bank has focused on the transfer of billions of dollars on behalf of nations like Iran, which are under international sanctions, and the transfer of money through the US financial system from Mexican drug cartels.

HSBC admitted to a breakdown of controls and apologised in a statement announcing it had reached a deferred-prosecution agreement with the US Department of Justice.

Ikea monkey headed to Canada primate sanctuary sanctuary (Video)

A monkey who caused a stir by appearing in a Toronto Ikea store wearing a sheepskin coat and a nappy has been sent to a primate sanctuary.

Five-month-old Darwin was transferred to Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary in Sunderland, Ontario, after spending the night in a city animal shelter.

Pictures of the bundled-up rhesus macaque were spread around the world by social media.
