The blaze, near the village of Chulilla, approximately 30 miles west of the city of Valencia, destroyed 5,500 hectares of land since it broke out on Sunday afternoon, according to authorities, but was brought under control by last night.

Strong winds and high temperatures saw the fire threaten Chulilla, and five other villages in the region, with around 800 firefighters were used to tackle the blaze and several roads closed.

Good Samaritan helps same man 8 years later

Rain's picture

Cleveland.com - Michael Sangiacomo, The Plain Dealer , 9/11/12

AUBURN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Gerald Gronowski may owe his life to the intervention of a good Samaritan, the same one who helped him once before eight years ago.

Saturday night, Christopher Manacci of Chagrin Falls stopped to help Gronowski, whose van was pulled off on Washington Street with a flat tire. Moments after Manacci parked his 2006 Lexus behind Gronowski's van, which was pulling a boat on a trailer, a pickup rammed Manacci's car and then skidded on two wheels past the two men and Gronowski's son, missing them by 3 feet.

The Washington Post - Tim Carmen, 9/13/12

Jim Cole/AP - A hamburger made from ground beef containing what is derisively referred to as “pink slime,” or what the meat industry calls “lean, finely textured beef,” right, and one made from pure 85% lean ground beef are ready for tasting Thursday, March 15, 2012 in Concord, N.H.

Of all the media outlets that have taken shots at Beef Products and its “lean, finely textured beef,” the South Dakota-based company apparently feels slimed by only one: ABC and its ABC News division.

The largest U.S. producer of “pink slime” — once widely found in fast-food burgers, supermarkets and the federal school lunch program — filed a defamation lawsuit Thursday against the network, claiming it went on a campaign that cost Beef Products $400 million. Anchor Diane Sawyer and reporters Jim Avila and David Kerley are also named as defendants.

Our view: Do-nothing legislators hit the re-election trail, demonstrating how federal tax dollars are truly wasted on payouts to the indolent

The best news to come out of Capitol Hill last week was largely buried in the back pages. It was the statements made by senior Republicans that if President Barack Obama wins reelection in November, they will retreat in their position on raising taxes on high-earners.

The Russian authorities are threatening legal action in Britain to recover a £400,000 loan by a Moscow bank to the Queen's cousin Viscount Linley's bespoke furniture business.

Such a step - which would be highly embarrassing to the Royal Family - is being mooted because the up-market interior design company has failed to heed a demand to repay the cash, say officials in Moscow.

Rain's picture

Source: CatholicCulture.org - 9/21/12

A pool of 8 reporters will be allowed to cover the “Vatileaks” trial of Paolo Gabriele and Claudio Sciarpelletti, the Vatican has announced.

While selected journalists will be allowed to report on the trial, no recordings will be allowed, the Vatican said. The reporters will hear the testimony of any witnesses that are called, but those witnesses will only by identified by initials—which will be randomly assigned to them, not the witnesses’ actual initials.

The trial opens on September 29. Defense lawyers have been given until September 26 to file new evidence with the Vatican tribunal, and both prosecution and defense will be asked to submit lists of witnesses. The trial will be held before a panel of three Vatican magistrates.
