UK Weather: Heavy Showers Bring Flood Warnings (PICTURES)

Heavy showers have continued overnight, bringing fear of continued flooding problems for parts of the UK. The Environment Agency (EA) has eight flood warnings in place this morning, its second highest alert, which means flooding is expected.

Eighty-nine areas across England and Wales were on flood alert, the EA's lowest warning.

Fiji Braces for Cyclone Evan as Australia Offers Aid Supplies

Fiji, an island chain in the South Pacific, is bracing for the arrival of tropical cyclone Evan which left two people dead and 3,000 in temporary accommodation in Samoa earlier this week.

Australia’s Foreign Minister Bob Carr offered personnel and aid supplies to assist recovery in both countries, with the Australian Civilian Corps. currently on standby, according to an e-mailed statement from his office yesterday. New Zealand will give NZ$50,000 ($42,335) in aid to Samoa, including search assistance for missing fishermen, Radio New Zealand reported on its website.

Second Arizona Storm Brings Heavy Snow, Rain

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- A strong winter storm that hit much of Arizona, bringing heavy snow and rain and the temporary closure of a large section of Interstate 40 on Saturday, is expected to weaken overnight, forecasters said.

The storm and one that hit the state a day earlier, dropped as much as 2 feet of snow in the mountains north of Flagstaff, at least a foot in Flagstaff itself and along the Mogollon Rim and about 6 inches in Prescott, according to the National Weather Service. Scattered power outages were reported.

Powerful Storm Headed for Seattle, Northwest

A wet pattern than began in the Pacific Northwest during the middle of October just won't let up. Since October 12, Seattle, Wash. has only seen a total of eight completely dry days. Portland, Ore. has only had 11 dry days in the same time period.

Though unsettled weather conditions are already in place with rain showers and mountain snow ongoing, we have our eyes on a powerful storm set to slam the region later Sunday through Monday.

Dec 13 (Reuters) - Drought continued to expand through many key farming states within the central United States in the past week, as scattered rainfall failed to replenish parched soils, according to a report issued Thursday by state and federal climatology experts.

Drought conditions were most pervasive in the Plains states, including in top wheat producer Kansas, according to the Drought Monitor report.

More than 120 areas across the UK are on flood alert this morning with heavy rain set to fall throughout the weekend.

Coastal flooding in Scotland has already seen people evacuated from their homes, including residents of sheltered housing. High tides and severe weather led to 25 people being taken from complexes at Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire.

The Environment Agency increased the number of areas at risk overnight.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.  — A winter storm system that dropped rain and snow across much of Arizona is starting to move east while a second storm is expected Saturday.

"A strong upper-level system is responsible for the rain and mountain snow moving across the Southwest on Friday," said weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce. "The storm system gave San Diego their first 1+ inch soaking of rain in more than a year. The current storm will depart on Friday night as a new disturbance arrives on Saturday with more rain and high elevation snow."

More snow and strong wind in the southwest

The Norway Post - 12/15/12

The unusually heavy snowfall, driven by gale-force winds continues to cause severe problems in the south west of Norway. In Rogaland a train with 115 passengers was still stuck in the snow on Saturday morning.

The train which is stuck near Vigrestad, also lost power for several hours during the night, but the carriages were again heated Saturday morning, NRK reports.
