This Generic Fake Advertisement Teaches Us A Lot About Real Advertising

I recently watched television. It’s not something I do very often anymore; not for the last ten years. I was somewhat shocked at how I felt when the advertisements would begin, one after another, rolling across the screen. I felt like an animal. I felt like I was cattle. I felt kind of stupid. It was strange.

Massive Walmart Protests Planned For Black Friday

Over the years, the discontent for Walmart’s business practices has been steadily growing. In the past, they’ve been characterized as small-business killers, even prompting television programs like South Park and Family Guy to take a stab at them. Every year that passes, the public learns more about them. We’ve learned things about how Walmart actually instructs their employees to apply for financial assistance, and that the company’s low wages require the employees to receive around $400,000 in welfare benefits each year [per store].

This Senator Has A Lot To Say About Gaza, And We Should All Listen

Meet Senator David Norris. Norris is an academic and civil rights activist from Ireland. Norris has been raising hell in Ireland for decades, having been credited with successes like eliminating the anti-homosexuality law that was on the books back in 1988 after fighting it for 14 years.

This video of him popped up on the web recently and has been getting a lot of play time. In this video, he condemns Israel for their aggression in Gaza, saying that they’re simply using the holocaust as a means to perpetrate their own.

From the video:

“Israel is afraid of Palestinian unity, that’s what all this is about. It has nothing to do with the murder of Israeli children, the Israelis knew that Hamas had nothing to do with it before this war started. With regards to Hamas, Israel created Hamas in order to split Fatah, so they’re responsible for Fatah, and I have that confirmed in the highest level in the foreign ministry in Jerusalem...

Are Extra-Terrestrials Real? NASA Is Preparing Public For First Contact

“Yes there have been crashed craft, and bodies recovered. We are not alone in the universe, they have been coming here for a long time.” – Apollo 14 Astronaut, Air Force Captain Dr. Edgar Mitchell

Just a few short months ago, American astronomers testified to congress that extraterrestrial life certainly exists. There’s no question about it. Given the size of the universe, and how many stars and earth like planets there are, they must exist.

“The number of habitable worlds in our galaxy is certainly in the tens of billions, minimum, and we haven’t even talked about the moons. And the number of galaxies we can see, other than our own, is about 100 billion,” said Seth Shostak, Senior Astronomer at California’s SETI Institute

During the testimony, Steven J. Dick, an astronomer and NASA historian said:

We’re looking at all scenarios about finding life. If you find microbes, that’s one thing. If you find intelligence, it’s another. And if they communicate, it’s something else, and depending on what they say...

What Happens In Your Brain When You Play A Musical Instrument?

Keeping the mind sharp is important as we age. Learning to do new things and making sure we exercise it like a muscle is how we avoid degeneration in old age. When listening to music, several areas of your brain become engaged and more active. When you play a musical instrument and make music yourself, that becomes a sort of full-brain workout. Anita Collins explains how neural pathways are created when you learn to play an instrument, and how proverbial ‘fireworks’ go off in the brain when you play. Also examined is how music and learning to play music can serve as a long-term, positive effect on your brain.

BBC Journalist Confronts Coca-Cola President About Sugary Drinks On Live TV – AWESOME!

Did you know that sodas often contain so much sugar that they need to add an ingredient to suppress our body’s response to vomit? That fact alone made me stop drinking soda completely.

Sugar first became popular in the use in the late 1970’s since it was cheaper than cane sugar. Today, we consume on average a total of 27 teaspoons of sugar daily. The daily recommended dose is only 6 teaspoons for women and 9 teaspoons for men.

With Canada Committed To The Keystone Pipeline, Senate Republicans Ready A Vote

candian-oil-sands-615

To say that Obama has been kicking the can down the road on the Keystone XL Pipeline is probably an understatement. He has refused to issue a decision on whether or not to build the pipeline, and congress has lacked the votes to pass it. But now, with Republicans sweeping the Senate, picking up 7 seats from Democrats, they’re ready to vote. Senate Republicans plan to push ahead early next year with a bill to approve the pipeline.

And Canada is also ready for them to vote. Joe Oliver, Canada’s Finance Minister, said on Thursday that the Canadian government remains committed to the Keystone XL pipeline project and that he believes it will gain approval.

Nestle CEO: Water Is Not A Human Right, Should Be Privatized

When the point of the game is to make as much money as you can, you’d be surprised what the rich will try to monetize. Water is the one thing we need to have every day in order to be healthy and to survive. You can go a while without eating, but you’re dead in days if you don’t drink any water. But according to the (now former) CEO of Nestle, that resource is not a human right and should not be owned by the public, but is a resource that should be sold at prices they set.

Don’t Laugh: Denver Uses Smell-O-Scope To Find Weed Smokers. Okay, Laugh.

196cjpa9zxbaapng

Whether you’re trying to sniff out offensive pot smokers or want to win the biggest dork in the universe award, this smell-o-scope is right for you.

In Denver, where recreational marijuana is legal, residents have been complaining more often about nasty marijuana smells all over the place. Their assessment that the smell is so offensive isn’t one I agree with, but I will admit, as a Coloradan, I smell pot freaking all the time everywhere. More and more Denver citizens are calling for an anti pot-smell ordinance, and that’s where the smell-o-scope comes in.

Ben Siller, a licensed smell investigator...

The Birth Of A Planet Caught By Radio Telescope

ALMA image of the protoplanetary disc around HL Tauri

This incredible image was taken by astronomers at the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array in the high altitude desert of Chile. It reveals the ‘baby picture’ of a planet, which gas and a debris disk forming around a young, sun-like star. This planet is likely much like ours was 4 billion years ago during early formation. One day, that planet may harbor life much like us; intelligent, sometimes compassionate, sometimes violent, and generally handsome.
