Researcher: Trees Communicate With One Another Through Fungi

Dr. Suzanne Simard is a professor with the UBC Faculty of Forestry. She comes to us with the amazing discovery that mycorrhizae and mycorrhizal fungi forms networks between the trees that allow for a type of communication between the trees. It’s a symbiotic relationship; the trees provide the fungus with carbohydrate energy in return for water and nutrients that the fungi collect from the soil.

“The mycorrhizal networks form when mycelia connect the roots of two or more plants of the same or different species.” writes Dr. Simard. “Through careful experimentation, recent graduate Francois Teste determined that survival of these establishing trees was greatly enhanced when they were linked into the network of old trees.”

8750383.tA young teenage girl, who out of concern for her well being has opted to remain anonymous, claims that cannabis oil helped treat her leukemia. She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She had very aggressive chemotherapy transplants and marrow transplants, and none of them seemed to be working. So she and her family opted to look for alternative treatments, which is how they landed at cannabis oil.

The treatment was implemented by two doctors from Toronto, Yadvinder Sing and Chamandeep Bali. After the first dose of cannabis oil, her situation improved. Her blast cell count was improving and her red blood cell counts went up as well. Unfortunately for this young lady, the leukemia did eventually take her life. It was a little bit too late for this treatment to be truly effective.

But it goes to show how cannabis oil can make traditional cancer treatments even more potent. What do you think? Do stories lik...

plastic-pollution10

Do you live in Florida? Would you like to ban plastic bags in your area? Tough luck! It’s illegal for any local or state government body in Florida to ban plastic bags. Really.

There are 132 cities and counties in the US that ban the bag in retail stores. State Senator Dwight Bullard wants to add Florida to that list, but Florida’s legislature in 2008 passed a ban on banning plastic bags. The Department of Environmental Protection in Florida recommended guidelines for better regulating plastic, but the state has not acted on it.

From the state’s charter:

“Until such time that the Legislature adopts the recommendations of the [DEP], no local government, local governmental agency, or state government agency may enact any rule, regulation, or ordinance regarding use, disposition, sale, prohibition, restriction, or t...
