A cold front and trough have brought the heaviest March rain in 12 years to parts of Victoria with Tasmania also getting a good soak.
On Saturday night a trough and cold front swept through Victoria and Tasmania bringing widespread showers and the odd storm. Showers continued through Sunday morning in the wake in the front in brisk southerly winds.
Victoria's Central district had some of the highest totals, including some suburbs of Melbourne. Epping picked up 37mm making it their highest March fall in 12 years. Essendon had their highest fall since May with 31mm reaching the gauge. Melbourne city itself dodged the heaviest rain but still recorded 15mm. Although not has heavy as other areas it was the heaviest fall so far this month. The city has now recorded 16mm for March, making it the driest start to Autumn in five years. Further north, parts of Kinglake had 46mm.
