Study: Social Anxiety May Be Associated With Being An Empath

Those of you who are familiar with social anxiety will understand how hard social interactions may be for people suffering from this disorder. Simple everyday situations that seem perfectly fine to most people, such as talking to a stranger in the street or making a phone call, can lead to intense disturbing symptoms that accompany anxiety and stress: high heart rate, trembling, excessive sweating, etc.

And it’s not only about physical symptoms. It seems that socially anxious people can’t have a “normal” life – meeting new people, making friends, going out and partying – as almost any social situation causes discomfort and confusion. Many of them believe that something is wrong with them and they need to be “fixed”. But it’s not always as it seems, and there may be much more profound causes behind social anxiety disorder than we are used to think.

The prevailing point of view on the causes of social phobia in psychiatry states that the condition is associated with the fear of being judged by others. But what if socially anxious people are simply too sensitive to other people’s energy and emotions, which are so intense and devastating that they are forced to avoid any social interactions?

Are You Addicted To Busyness?

appointment book

By Lissa Rankin MD

Guest Writer for Wake Up World

How many times have you heard variations on this conversation?

Person A: How’s it going?
Person B: I’m insanely busy. You know, the usual.
Person A: Yeah, me too. I’ve scheduled 2015 already.
Person B: I get it. Haven’t taken a real vacation in over a year.
Person A: Well, gotta count our blessings for being busy, right?
Person B: Amen.

It seems to me that we wear busyness like a badge of honor. I’m busy, therefore I’m important and valuable, therefore I’m worthy. And if I’m not busy, forget it. I don’t matter.

Stages of Conscious Awakening

Stages of Conscious Awakening

By Montalk

Guest Writer for Wake Up World

It is imperative that we awaken from mundane awareness into full spiritual remembrance of who we are. The problem is that even when physically awake, we can still be mentally asleep, unaware of ourselves and entirely absorbed in whatever mechanical impulse or external stimulus captures our attention. This state of confluence, or mental absorption, keeps us in an unproductive dream state.

The common understanding of what it means to be “awake” disguises the truth, which is that despite walking around with eyes open, people tend to nonetheless be hypnotized, dimly conscious, sleepwalking, daydreaming, or in a state of trance. What all these states have in common is that the conscious core of the individual is absent or passive, blowing like a leaf in the winds of environmental stimuli.

You Are Loved: Day 144, Kan 1

YOU ARE LOVED   Each of you comes from Source.  At one point, we all were a part of the energy that Source is. We cannot describe to you the beauty of this energy, for we ourselves have no full remembrance of how it was before we separated from Source. However, we know that the Dimension between where you currently reside and where we are is separated by a huge chasm of difference in the understanding of this Love.

We wish to impart to you the knowledge that you are fully loved by Source and us. There is never any judgment. Once you have detached from the Earth Realm, judgment does not exist except in other planes where this was created as part of their experience. Speak to your Masters who reside on the Earth, they know this is true. They are the ones closest to understanding the true nature of the universe.

You will know these Masters for they are meek and kind and spend much of their time in introspection and praying for the world. Their lives are devoted in service to mankind, never asking for payment, for they know all their needs will be met. Read their writings, learn their ways and integrate those aspects that increase your capacity to love, unconditionally. Simplify your life so you will have increased time and energy to devote to those things that pull at your heart.

The Likely Cause of Addiction Has Been Discovered, and It Is Not What You Think

It is now one hundred years since drugs were first banned -- and all through this long century of waging war on drugs, we have been told a story about addiction by our teachers and by our governments. This story is so deeply ingrained in our minds that we take it for granted. It seems obvious. It seems manifestly true. Until I set off three and a half years ago on a 30,000-mile journey for my new book, Chasing The Scream: The First And Last Days of the War on Drugs, to figure out what is really driving the drug war, I believed it too. But what I learned on the road is that almost everything we have been told about addiction is wrong -- and there is a very different story waiting for us, if only we are ready to hear it.

If we truly absorb this new story, we will have to change a lot more than the drug war. We will have to change ourselves.

When You Desire Happiness

Happiness is yours. I give it to you. It is the rug you stand on, the floor you walk on, the chair you sit in. You are the happiness you carry. That has to be so because I exist in your heart, and I am your happiness. I am your happiness of count.

When fear enters your heart, unhappiness gets its foot in the door. Fear and trembling dance a little jig in your heart, and you call this unhappiness. You name a state of affairs as unhappiness. Unhappiness seems very real to you, yet it is not the state of affairs. Unhappiness is an idea you carry. Fear gets a hold on you and makes you fearful, and your heart sinks.

You may think that the present is unhappy. You may feel unhappy, yet unhappiness is an idea that you carry around. You tell yourself that you are stuck in the mud and can never truly be happy, or happy for long. On Earth, life moves on irrespective of anything.

A decision you make for happiness is moving yourself forward, dear ones. A decision for unhappiness holds your back. Both happiness and unhappiness are conclusions you draw. A conclusion can be anything at all. A conclusion may be like a cloak you put on with many moth holes in it. Such conclusions are not of much use to you. Certainly, the conclusions you make color your day. If you like color, then color your day with the colors you like. The conclusions you draw are optional. Opt to use the colors you like.

These 7 Things Happen To You When You Die

Steven Bancarz, Spirit, Science & Metaphysics
Waking Times

What happens to us when we die? Where does our soul go? Chances are, if you were brought up in a religious background you believe that there are only 2 places you can go: Heaven and Hell. If you are a good person and believe the right things, you spend eternity in Heaven. If you are a sinful person, you spend an eternity in hell. Thankfully, this is a false dichotomy.

On top of the fact that it doesn’t even make sense to think about only 2 options (both of which are eternal), there has been a lot of scientific investigation into what happens when people leave their bodies when it dies and then return after experiencing time in the spirit world. Thousands of near-death experiences have given us the information we need to form a more accurate picture of what awaits us on the other side. Some do report hellish realms, and almost all report heavenly realms, but there is another side of the coin here that needs to be addressed.

Seven of the Most Powerful Medicinal Plants

Anyone who has studied plants will not be surprising to learn that the majority of prescription drugs today owe their medicinal powers to some form of plant derivative. For most of human history, plants have been a sort of public pharmacy for people all over the world. Below are seven of the most powerful medicinal plants, along with a description of some of their healing properties.

Cannabis

Most people will be surprised to learn that up until the 1970’s, cannabis was legal in most of the United States – and it seems to be headed towards legality again. Studies have shown that use of this plant can help with conditions as diverse as depression and anxiety, high blood pressure, pain and even glaucoma.

Lady Fern

When crushed and applied to the skin, the juice from lady ferns is good for easing stings and insect bites as well as minor cuts and burns...

The very idea of God as a person creates doubts in you. How many hands has he? What kind of face? Is he black or white? Does he look like a Chinese or an American? What height?

Old or young? Man or woman? How many faces has he? A thousand and one questions and not a single question is answerable, because you have taken the very first thing wrongly. God is not a person at all.

God is this impersonal existence.

Keep this continuously in your heart - that in Sufism God is synonymous with existence, synonymous with isness, the suchness of existence is God - and then things will become easier for you to understand.

Transcending the Introvert/Extrovert Duality

will's picture

There's a lot of talk about introverts and extroverts lately, and quite frankly, I don't believe viewing yourself as either of those things is very healthy. I think we all know the dangers of defining ourselves through the ego, and that's exactly what calling yourself an introvert or an extrovert does, it's an ego definition. It limits how you see yourself, and it limits your behavior too.

An introvert is focused upon the inner, while an extrovert is focused upon the outer. Who can say their lives are fully either of those things? The inner and the outer are constantly interacting, you bring up the inner and share it with the outer, that's self-expression. Likewise, you take what you see in the outer and integrate it into your inner world, that's how you experience life. The inner and the outer aren't really separate at all, but deeply interconnected, and the "line" between them is largely an illusion created by your mind.

We live in a materialistic, outward-focused society, and it's difficult to fit in if you don't conform to this paradigm. Spiritually-oriented people can't help but feel alienated in this type of society, because it discredits and ignores the inner world. The more empathic beings generally withdraw into themselves, and pull away from society because it offers little that really feeds the Soul.
