El Salvador bans Monsanto’s glyphosate

Naturalnews, By: Rebecca Winters, 10/22/2013

(NaturalNews) While the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was busy doubling (and in some cases quadrupling) the amount of allowable glyphosate residue on certain foods, the nation of El Salvador actually heeded the grim data surrounding the herbicide's disastrous effect on our environment and everything in it and decided to outright ban the chemical. Glyphosate, the number one ingredient in biotech giant Monsanto's best-selling Roundup herbicide, was banned in El Savador, along with 52 other harmful chemicals, this past September.

A wealth of independent (read: not funded by Monsanto or Big Agra interests) research been published over the last year to further affirm the havoc wreaked by the now ubiquitous chemical, most notably, award-winning scientist Gilles-Eric Seralini's genetically modified corn toxicity study published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicity last fall. Seralini and his team found that feeding rats Monsanto's glyphosate-resistant GMO corn resulted in massive bodily system failures, including chronic hormone and reproductive disruption, severe liver and kidney damage and the formation of large tumors which may have been, according to the study, a result of endocrine disruption linked to Roundup.

Planetary Healing: GMOs - What's the Big Deal?

The following was written by Wes Annac for the ongoing “planetary healing” section of The Aquarius Paradigm Weekly Newsletter.

GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms” are discussed constantly on the internet. Every day we hear of the ongoing struggle between health activists and big biotech concerning GMO production and contamination of our food supply, and depending on which source you listen to, GMOs are either touted as a boogeyman or a life saver that can heal the planet.

Personally, I’ve only begun to learn about them in the last few years and I’ve kept up to date with news concerning them as much as anyone else, but I’ve never quite known about them or why they’re discussed in such an unfavorable light on most alternative news or health-related blog sites. It’s easy to jump on the anti-GMO bandwagon and protest Monsanto and the spread of big biotech’s products, but if we don’t know much of anything about them then we can’t actually understand their malevolence or why, in my opinion, our society needs to purge them completely from our food supply.

The Vatican and the GMO Connection

The long unanswered question as to how one company (after all that is what Monsanto) is could gain so much power and support to the extent that it not only has/is aiming for control of the global food supply, but with the total backing of global governance. The article below helps to answer that question. The earth has had the privilege of creating wonderful food for us for millions of years – great foods with essential vitamins and healing properties for humans, but now this beautiful and precious heritage is in danger due to genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Huge GMO News

Foodrevolution.org, By: Ocean Robbins, 10/19/2013

On Wednesday, Washington state Attorney General Bob Feguson filed a lawsuit against the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA). The GMA, a lobby for the junk food industry, has been by far the largest donor to efforts to defeat the labeling initiative. The lawsuit alleges that the GMA illegally collected and spent more than $7 million while shielding the identity of its contributors.

The source of the money has now been exposed, and it turns out to be Pepsico, Coca-Cola, NestleUSA, General Mills and a few other junk food companies. The lawsuit reveals that GMA leadership held a series of secret meetings to plot how to perpetrate a money laundering scheme and illegally hide member donations from Washington state voters, in direct violation of campaign disclosure laws.

Kaua'i city council slaps down Monsanto with unprecedented new restrictions on GMOs and toxic pesticides

Naturalnews, By: Mike Adams, 10/17/2013

(NaturalNews) A milestone has just been achieved on the island in Kaua'i, where the city council passed measure 2491 which places unprecedented new restrictions on toxic agricultural chemicals frequently used in conjunction with GMOs. Few people realize that Kaua'i is ground zero for chemical experimentation in agriculture. The island hosts 15,000 acres of crop lands which are experimentally exploited by biotech companies and chemical manufacturers. As a result, Hawaiians who live on Kaua'i are exposed to a toxic cocktail of synthetic chemicals on a routine basis.

The bill passed by a vote of 6 to 1, with councilman Mel Rapozo siding with the biotech industry and voting no. Hawaii Governor Abercrombie appears to be set against the bill and tried to block its passage. The biotech industry, as usual, has been busily engaged in false, defamatory, deceptive and even criminal actions in trying to block this city council measure. The industry, for example, routinely bribes scientists to publicly oppose bills restricting GMOs while falsely claiming they have no financial ties to the industry.

It seems with the many reports of birth defects, organ failure, cancer, and other unsavory health conditions associated with GMO consumption, we should limit the use of GMO in baby products. After all, babies are very sensitive to the foods they consume, and we already know that pesticides found in mother’s milk can be damaging. Below you will learn of three companies which represent more than 90% of baby formula sales in the US that won’t consider removing GMOs from your baby’s food.

Judge rules that GMOs are imminent threat

By: Devon G. Pena, 10/11/2013

An October 10 press release with Mexico City byline announces the banning of genetically-engineered corn in Mexico. According to the group that issued the press release, La Coperacha, a federal judge has ordered Mexico’s SAGARPA (Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca, y Alimentación), which is Mexico’s Secretary of Agriculture, and SEMARNAT (Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales), which is equivalent of the EPA, to immediately “suspend all activities involving the planting of transgenic corn in the country and end the granting of permission for experimental and pilot commercial plantings”.

The unprecedented ban was granted by the Twelfth Federal District Court for Civil Matters of Mexico City. Judge Jaime Eduardo Verdugo J. wrote the opinion and cited “the risk of imminent harm to the environment” as the basis for the decision. The judge’s ruling also ruled that multinationals like Monsanto and Pioneer are banned from the release of transgenic maize in the Mexican countryside” as long as collective action lawsuits initiated by citizens, farmers, scientists, and civil society organizations are working their way through the judicial system.
