Location of recent quakes under Etna volcano

Etna (Sicily, Italy): A small swarm of earthquakes has occurred yesterday under the volcano's eastern flank near the town of Milo. INGV Catania has recorded several quakes around magnitude 0.7-1.3 at depths between 5-9 km.

Pavlov (Alaska Peninsula, USA): Over the past two days, the eruptive activity at Pavlof has greatly declined and AVO reduced the Aviation Color Code back to Yellow and the Volcano Alert Level to Advisory.
Seismic tremor and small discrete explosions are no longer detected in seismic and pressure sensor data. Satellite observations show no evidence of elevated surface temperatures, volcanic gas, or ash emissions. There have been no visual observations from pilots or from webcam images of any eruptive activity since June 26.

Awakening? Earthquake swarm reported at Nicaragua’s Momotombo Volcano

Magikalspirit's picture

theextinctionprotocol-July 2 2013

July 2, 2013NICARAGUAA seismic swarm has been occurring at the volcano during the past 24 hours, including a magnitude 3.0 earthquake yesterday. This could indicate a magmatic intrusion happening at depth, but so far, no unusual surface activity has been noted. On the other hand, Momotombo volcano is one of Nicaragua’s most frequently active, with 10 recorded historic eruptions between 1524 and 1905, so new activity would not be a big surprise. The last time the volcano erupted was in 1905. –Volcano Discovery

Kilauea’s eruption continues apace with two ocean entry points

June 30, 2013HAWAIIBreakouts from the Kahaualea 2 lava flow burned forest areas north of Kilauea’s middle east rift zone today as eruption activity continued with little change. Tiltmeters at the Kilauea summit recorded only minor fluctuations, according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. Seismic tremor levels were also low, according to the observatory. The tiltmeter at Puu Oo cone in the middle east rift zone also recorded only minor fluctuations. According to the observatory, the northeast spatter cone continued to feed the Kahaualea 2 flow, which extended about 1.6 miles to the north. Breakouts fro the flow burned forest at the north edge of a flow field created between 1983 and 1986. A second active front, about 1.2 miles north-northwest of Puu Oo, expanded to the west and burned the edge of the forest to the north, the observatory reported. Meanwhile, the so-called Peace Day flow fed a pair of ocean entries via lava tubes. The main entry area was just east of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park boundary; a smaller entry was located just inside the park. –Star Adviser

volcanodiscovery-June 30,2013

Currently erupting:

Ambrym (Vanuatu): active lava lakes in several craters (updated 28 Jun 2013)
Bagana (Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea): ash explosions (updated 7 Jun 2013)
Batu Tara (Sunda Islands, Indonesia): strombolian explosions, ash plumes up to 500 m, extrusion of a small lava dome with rockfalls (updated 3 Jun 2013)

Volcanoes Today, 29 Jun 2013: Fuego

volcanodiscovery-June 29,2013

Explosion from Fuego yesterday (INSIVUMEH)

Fuego (Guatemala): Explosions have become more violent, the latest special bulletin of INSIVUMEH indicates. Mild strombolian eruptions have turned into more powerful vulcanian-type explosions, which eject dense ash plumes rising to 800 m and produce numerous avalanches of blocks around the crater, especially on the southern flank.
Shock waves from the explosions could be felt in areas up to 15 km distance, and rattled windows and doors in houses of Panimaché, Panimaché II, Morelia, Santa Sofía, Sangre de Cristo and were sometimes heard as far as Yepocapa and Alotenango. Fine ash fall occurred in Panimaché, Morelia and Sangre de Cristo.

Nicarauga’s Telica volcano shaken by new earthquake swarm

Magikalspirit's picture

theextinctionprotocol-June 28,2013

June 28, 2013 NICARAUGA - A new earthquake swarm started this morning, visible on INETER’s seismograms. Telica has six cones, the tallest of which is 1061 meters high. There is a double crater at the top, 700 meters wide and 120 meters deep. Telica has erupted frequently since the Spanish Era. The most recent eruption was in 2011. In terms of explosive force, Telica’s largest eruption has been rated with a VEI of 4. That eruption occurred in 1529. One of Nicaragua’s most active volcanoes, Telica has erupted frequently, and ash from those frequent eruptions keeps the slopes of its cone bare of vegetation.  –Volcano Discovery, Wikipedia
