(Reuters) - Former President George H.W. Bush remained in the intensive care unit of a Houston hospital on Thursday, according to a hospital spokesman.

Bush, 88, a Republican who during his one term in office led a coalition that ejected Iraqi forces from Kuwait in 1991, was admitted to Methodist Hospital November 23 for bronchitis. He was transferred to intensive care on Sunday after setbacks including a persistent fever, family spokesman Jim McGrath has said.

Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who presided over the swift and devastating 1991 military assault on Iraq that transformed the Middle East and reminded America what it was like to win a war, died Thursday of complications from pneumonia. He was 78.

MIAMI (Reuters) - Record low hauls of stone crabs off the coast of Florida are creating a scarcity of one of the holiday season's favorite seafood delicacies, pushing up prices and sparking a bidding wars among high-end restaurants.

"No question, there is a shortage and people are feeling it," said Roger Duarte, a former investment banker and owner of Miami-based supplier George's Stone Crab. "I have clients calling me who I have never had business with. Everyone is looking for stone crabs anywhere they can get them," he said.

Earthquake panic grips region of Black Sea, near Russian city of Sochi

December 27, 2012 – RUSSIA – Earthquakes continue to plague a region near the Black Sea. Sochi is a city in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, situated on the Black Sea coast ,near the border between Georgia and Russia. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin ordered the emergencies ministry to check the 2014 Olympic sites in the southern city of Sochi following a string of earthquakes, his spokesman said. “The President ordered the emergencies ministry to pay close attention to the shocks in Sochi and other cities,” Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, Interfax reported. “He asked that special attention is paid to construction sites to make sure they suffer no damage,” Peskov added.

December 27, 2012 – MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — Nicaraguan authorities say they’ve ordered the evacuation of some 300 families living on the flanks of the country’s highest volcano after it began spewing hot gas and ash Tuesday. Some 1,500 farmers living on the slopes of the San Cristobal volcano refused to leave, despite being ordered to evacuate as the volcano spewed gas, sand and ash. “People have not evacuated because we do not want to go and leave the area abandoned,” Maria Pereira told AFP.

Rescued Heroes Calendar

One couple is paying tribute to the amazing work of therapy and service dogs in a 2013 calendar.

Titled 'Rescued Heroes,' the calendar features 11 dogs who were rescued -- via adoption or by sheer luck -- and now work as therapy dogs, providing service and comfort to people in need. On the cover is Fitz, a service dog for an Iraq veteran with PTSD.

"We were so impressed with the way service dogs can help veterans manage their 'invisible wounds' and get their lives back," creator Lynn Sansale told The Huffington Post.
