Despite the US government's nearly century-long prohibition of the plant, cannabis is nonetheless one of the most investigated therapeutically active substances in history. To date, there are over 20,000 published studies or reviews in the scientific literature referencing the cannabis plant and its cannabinoids, nearly half of which were published within the last five years according to a keyword search on PubMed Central, the US government repository for peer-reviewed scientific research. Over 1,450 peer-reviewed papers were published in 2013 alone.

People protesting in front of the Romanian Government Building

Eddie1177's picture

Thousands of Romanians marched to commemorate 24 years since the 1989 21 December bloody anti-communist Romanian revolution and to protest against parliament approving a bill that increases the immunity of deputies from corruption charges, against a Canadian company's plan to set up Europe's biggest open-cast gold mine in Romania, as well as against plans by U.S. energy group Chevron to explore for shale gas in a poor eastern region of the country. Banner reads: "Freedom where are you? I didn't saw you at Pungesti".

Legalising Cannabis In Britain, Like Uruguay, 'Would Save Millions'

Silver's picture

Huffingtonpost.com, By: Charlotte Meredith, 12/15/2013

The debate over the legalisation of cannabis has been moving increasingly from the margins into the political mainstream, with multiple cities, states and countries considering, developing or implementing a range of regulated market models. Many public figures, including some politicians, are in agreement that fifty years later, the war on drugs has failed – so has the time come for Britain to take the step from prohibition to legalised regulation? At a time when Britain is facing brutal austerity measure, The Institute For Social And Economic Research recently estimated that a regulated market could reduce the government deficit by up to £1.25bn, whilst producing roughly £400m in "net benefit" for the country.

crop manure 263x164 5 Green Manure Crops You can Plant to Heal the Soil

Much of the soil in our nation has become infertile due to the overuse of pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, and the persistent practice of mono-cropping which depletes nutrients from the soil, and thus the crops that are grown within it. Our current nutrient-depleted soil may soon lead to the impossible growth of crops, causing food shortages and more increased food prices. We need to change our farming practices to save the soil – this is where green manure comes in.

PA Supreme Court Says It’s Unconstitutional For Gas Companies to Frack Wherever They Want

Some major parts of Pennsylvania’s two-year-old Marcellus Shale drilling law are unconstitutional, the state’s Supreme Court decided Thursday. As the  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports, the court voted 4 – 2 that a provision that allowing natural gas companies to drill anywhere, regardless of local zoning laws, was unconstitutional. Seven municipalities had challenged the shale drilling law, known as Act 13, that  required “drilling, waste pits and pipelines be allowed in every zoning district, including residential districts, as long as certain buffers are observed.”

The Court said Act 13 “ fundamentally disrupted” the expectations of Pennsylvania residents living in residential zones, and that the provision wasn’t in line with Pennsylvania’s constitution or  Environmental Rights Amendment, which guarantees Pennsylvanians the “right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment.”

Half Of Supermarket Chicken Harbors Superbugs, Consumer Reports Finds

antibiotic resistance chicken

The Foster Farms salmonella outbreak that struck Schiller came shortly after Consumer Reports purchased chicken from stores around the country for an investigation. One of the packages turned out to be associated with the outbreak, which sent 40 percent of its victims to hospitals -- about double the rate usually seen in a salmonella scare. Some experts said they think antibiotic resistance may be at least partially responsible for the unusual severity.

Consumer Reports' findings, published on Thursday, underscore the potential danger to Americans posed by an apparently high rate of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the poultry aisle. Microbes that can resist multiple drugs lurked in about half of the more than 300 samples of raw chicken breasts tested by the consumer organization. Nearly all the chicken, regardless of brand or label, harbored at least one of six potentially harmful bacteria including E. coli and salmonella.

Bill Gates’ Project Tycho and Vaccine Voodoo

Bill Gates' Project Tycho and Vaccine Voodoo

Population cohort and ecologic studies have become today's norm for determining vaccine efficacy and support the belief that vaccination has safely reduced the spread of infectious diseases and saved millions of lives. Never a gold standard for scientific inquiry, population studies now make up the bulk of vaccine advocates' clinical arsenal to discredit more factual biological research favoring the arguments of vaccine opponents. A recent paper published in the November 2013 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, "Contagious Diseases in the United States from 1988 to the Present," is the first of what will inevitably turn into a flurry of future studies to persuade legislators and the public that vaccination should be mandatory for assuring the health of the nation.  The study was spawned from a new project launched at the University of Pittsburgh, Project Tycho, named after the renowned 16th century astronomer and mathematician Tycho Brahe and mentor of Johannes Kepler. Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, the Project is an enormous multi-tiered undertaking to store mortality data for 56 infectious diseases between 1888 and the present for future data-mining and analysis, and to strategize future policies to increase vaccination rates.

Allergies and cancer on the rise due to GM foods

Silver's picture

By: Jonathan Landsman, 12/19/2013

(NaturalNews) Food allergies have become a global epidemic and conventional medicine has no cure. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control, food allergies (in kids) have increased by 50% between 1997 and 2011. Could this have anything to do with genetically engineered foods?

Since the 1990s, when genetically modified (GM) foods were approved, we have seen a dramatic increase in food allergies, asthma, ADHD and many forms of cancer. As expected, most corporately-controlled, government health 'experts' would say genetically modified (GM) foods are 'safe' - but where are the safety studies to back up this unscientific claim of safety? (there are none)

Clinic to Open for Parents Who Oppose Vaccination*

Eddie1177's picture

Kids Flee Deadly Vaccine by David DeesCalifornia used to be one of the few states that made it easy to get a personal exemption to opt out of vaccinations. In 2014, that will change.

On January 1, a new law will go into effect in the state that will require parents who file a personal belief exemption to include a document signed by a doctor or other approved medical practitioner acknowledging they have been educated about the pros and cons of vaccines.

Dr. Dean Blumberg, a physician at UC Davis Medical Center, testified in support of the new law. He believes that most children should be vaccinated:

“Immunizations work and children do benefit. I thought the law was a good one. I was all for it.”

It may come as a surprise, then, that Dr. Blumberg has decided to open a clinic for parents who wish to opt out of vaccinating their children.

The clinic will provide parents with the counseling and signatures the law requires to enrol unvaccinated children in school.

Why did Dr. Blumberg decide to provide such a service?
