A step pyramid, a few decades older than the Great Pyramid of Giza (the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), has been uncovered by archaeologists in southern Egypt. Although scientists were aware of the pyramid’s existence, it remained buried under a thick layer of sand until a group of archaeologists started excavation works in 2010, according to a report by LiveScience. The group, led by Gregory Marouard, a research associate at the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute, has recently presented the initial results of its activity at a symposium by the Society for the Study of Egyptian Antiquities, held in Toronto. The step pyramid, which when built around 4,600 years ago was 13 meters (43 feet) high, has by now become about one third that, as the blocks it was constructed with have been pillaged throughout its centuries-long existence.

(Reuters) - Ireland put three former bankers on trial on Friday in its first such case since the financial crisis that forced it to accept an 85 billion euro (69 billion pounds) international bailout. The three former executives of collapsed Anglo Irish Bank pleaded not guilty to charges of providing unlawful financial assistance by lending money to others to buy the bank's shares, boosting its stock price. The high-profile trial of former chairman and chief executive Sean FitzPatrick and two other executives, Willie McAteer and Pat Whelan, could run for several months.

Ireland's banking crisis cost taxpayers more than 60 billion euros ($81 billion), or about two-fifths of national output, forcing it to take an emergency package in 2010 from the European Union and International Monetary Fund.

Edward Snowden in his interview with the German TV station ARD, which was broadcast on 26 January.

This past Sunday evening former NSA contractor Edward Snowden sat down for an interview with German television network ARD. The interview has been intentionally blocked from the US public, with virtually no major broadcast news outlets covering this story. In addition, the video has been taken down almost immediately every time it’s posted on YouTube.

In contrast, this was treated as a major political event in both print and broadcast media, in Germany, and across much of the world. In the interview, Mr. Snowden lays out a succinct case as to how these domestic surveillance programs undermine and erode human rights and democratic freedom.

Benjamin Fulford Weekly 2-4-14”Expect the fireworks to begin after the Lunar New Year’s celebrations end”

benjamin_fulford_smile_smirk26The story of the banker is quite a headline, and I would not be at all surprised. All of this report shows, once again, the desperation of those trying to keep the old house of cards together. Sorry, folks, your time is over.

I am holding all this in the Light (and not trying to figure it all out, nor keep track of it all).

GMO: The Biggest Food Con

Silver's picture

Common Dreams, By: Vandana Shiva, 02/03/2014

Pushing for genetically modified organisms is polluting our seed and food, our science and democracy.  GMOs have been deployed to privatize knowledge and seeds through Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), which include patents and copyrights. While on the one hand this is blocking public research on plant breeding, on the other it is denying farmers the right to save seeds and to share knowledge and continue the evolution of the seed. IPRs also deny the collective, cumulative innovation of indigenous cultures and promote biopiracy.

New York members of Congress, unions, consumer, and environmental groups gather outside City Hall to protest fast-track legislation on the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, Jan. 21, 2014. (Seth Hirsch)

NEW YORK—Despite subfreezing temperatures and heavy snowfall Tuesday, New York Congress members, unions, and environmental groups, huddled outside City Hall to call attention to some fast track legislation proposed in the Senate. The legislation would give the president the ability to negotiate the terms of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPP) without Congress being able to discuss or amend any part of it. “And because of fast-track legislation it will not provide adequate transparency, accountability or oversight. It fails to protect American workers and American jobs,” said Mario Cilento, president of the New York State American Federation of Labor Congress and Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).

Just in case you weren’t aware, genetically modified sugar beets are in just about every food imaginable. You’ll find it listed as ‘sucrose’ (among other sneaky labels) in thousands of foods at your local grocery store. The national sugar beet industry (which switched to GMO seeds when the federal government warned that if it didn’t it would face a sugar shortage) and its GM sugar beet crops have already contaminated nearby organic fields. A new ballot measure in southern Oregon has the sugar beet industry in a tizzy because it would ban the use of genetically modified organisms in Jackson County.
