Perth records wettest March in decades

The city has received 20 millimetres of rain. - ABC

 

The Perth metropolitan area has recorded more than three times its average monthly rainfall for March, its wettest in more than 40 years.

A cold front which passed over the southern half of the state dumped more than 23 millimetres of rain in Perth.

The weather bureau says so far this month the city has received almost 70 millimetres of rain, while the average is 19 millimetres.

There is a 100% probability of severe cold weather and icy conditions between 0800 on Monday and 0800 on Friday in parts of England. This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services. Please refer to the national Cold Weather Plan and your Trust's emergency plan for appropriate preventive action.

This is an extension and update to the existing level 3. Bitterly cold easterly winds will persist this week, bringing snow showers to northeast England and light snow flurries across other areas of England.

Big Story Weather from March 22-24: A major winter storm moved through from the Rockies to the Mid-Atlantic region bringing very heavy snowfall to some places. There was also severe weather that occurred on the southern part of the storm over the Gulf Coast and Florida.

Man critically injured as storms lash SE Qld

A man in his 40s was critically injured when a tree fell on him as severe thunderstorms lashed south-east Queensland last night.

Emergency crews worked through the evening after the storm brought down trees and cut power to 50,000 homes.

Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) says a man was running at St Lucia in Brisbane's inner west when he was struck by a tree.
