The concept of “American exceptionalism,” which traditionally places the US ahead of the rest of the industrialized world, should be dramatically reconsidered as the health and wellbeing of US citizens are sacrificed in the name of profit.

This is according to Dr. Howard Steven Friedman, a leading UN health economist and statistician, and author of the book ‘The Measure of a Nation.’

Maybe this is the fastest way to get high-frequency trading robots to stop ruining our stock market: Have them destroy each and every trading company that operates them.

It might take that sort of carnage to get the attention of market regulators, who have done little to stop the freakish market meltdowns, from the Flash Crash to the Facebook IPO, that have made investors hate the stock market forever.

The Metroscopia poll, published in left-leaning newspaper El Pais, also showed 72 percent consider the prime minister not to be efficient to fight the economic crisis, Reuters reported on Sunday.

The sharp fall in support for Rajoy comes after his government announced a new round of deep spending cuts and tax hikes to fight the debt crisis.

The strike on Monday was called in opposition to changes taking place in the country's banking landscape that it says Greece is implementing under pressure from its creditors.

In a deal announced last week, Piraeus Bank acquired, from the state-owned lender, EUR14.7 billion in assets and EUR21.4 billion in liabilities, including EUR14.3 billion in customer deposits.

Central Prison in Raleigh, N.C.

Durham, N.C. — Over 100 prisoners started a hunger strike on July 16 at three facilities in North Carolina: Bertie CI in Windsor, Scotland CI in Laurinburg and Central Prison in Raleigh. Prisoners are refusing to eat to underscore their demands for an immediate end to solitary confinement, torture, physical and emotional abuse, and for more nutritional food, medical care and other basic human rights.

This action follows a massive and similar strike across Georgia prisons, a hunger strike in the supermax Red Onion State Prison in Richmond, Va., this May, as well as a sit-down labor action in the kitchens at Central Prison last December.

The bank's leadership insist that HSBC's issues are a matter of structure rather than culture

Welcome to Planet Banker, a surreal place where a seeming lack of oxygen seems to affect the eye-sight and hearing of the inhabitants.

Yesterday's conference call with HSBC to discuss their latest extraordinary disasters – half year results, they prefer – took place on this curious planet, a place that gets stranger by the week.

30 years of secret, official transcripts prove vaccine schedules in US and UK are based on government lies

vaccine

(NaturalNews) A comprehensive investigation into the inner workings of the U.K.'s nationalized healthcare system has revealed a shocking legacy of corruption and lies concerning the country's vaccine policy. According to Dr. Lucija Tomlijenovic, Ph.D., from the University of British Columbia in Canada, the advisory and governing bodies that set vaccination policy in the U.K. have, for many decades now, hidden the truth about vaccine dangers, and deliberately pushed unsafe vaccines on the public in order to uphold the official vaccination schedule.

Official documents uncovered from secret meetings of the U.K.'s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), an independent body that helps set vaccination schedule policy in the U.K., reveal that JCVI ignores independent data showing vaccines to be unsafe, and reinforces questionable data produced by vaccine companies claiming that vaccines are safe. The group also discourages all research that might question the safety of vaccines, and knowingly lies to parents in order to increase the overall vaccination compliance rate.
