1 in 6 Americans Are Now on Psychiatric Medication

By Dr. Joseph Mercola
Guest writer for Wake Up World

Recent research shows that American doctors are still over-prescribing many different kinds of drugs, especially antibiotics and opioid pain killers, despite repeated calls for prudence. U.S. health care expenses have also risen, hitting $3.2 trillion annually as of 2015, and rising prescription prices combined with over-prescribing are significant drivers of these rising costs, according to a government report.2,3,4,5

Daily Message ~ Saturday January 14, 2017

Dear Ones, if you have had trouble with healthy boundaries in the past and are wishing to learn the art of speaking up for yourself, making a plan ahead of time can be very helpful. If you are wishing to move into healthier relationships with others who have not been respectful, it is likely that you are well aware of the pattern that you are in that you would like to shift out of. Planning ahead can be a wonderful first step.

Often when someone treats you in a way that you are not comfortable, it can make you feel small, frustrated, and disempowered. From that space it can be difficult to insist upon being treated in a more respectful fashion. This is why we strongly suggest making a plan ahead of time.

When you plan ahead, you are not caught off guard by someone's behaviour. Because you feel secure in new responses you can give, you can simply state your new truth or boundary from a calm and centred space. You will not be reactive, but rather, fully in your power. You will be anchoring the energy of respect, which will be recognized and honoured much faster because others will sense and respond to the energetic change.

Humans & All Living Things May Be Able To Perceive Earth’s Magnetic Field In An Extraordinary Way

by Arjun Walia, Collective Evolution

Science has recently shed light on the fact that what we used to perceive as ‘human’ aura is actually real. All of our bodies emit an electromagnetic field, and this fact plays a very important role far beyond what is commonly known when it comes to understanding our biology, and the interconnectedness we share with all life.

For example, did you know that the heart emits the largest electromagnetic field of all the body’s major organs? These fields and the information encoded into them can change based on how we are feeling, what we thinking, and different emotions we take on. The heart even sends signals to the brain through a system of neutrons that have both short-term and long-term memory, and these signals can affect our emotional experiences. The emotional information that’s modulated and coded into these fields changes their nature, and these fields can impact those around us. As Rollin McCraty, Ph.D, and director of research at The HeartMath institute tell us, “we are fundamentally and deeply connected with each other and the planet itself.”

The Psychology of Soft Slavery

Gary Z. McGee, Staff Writer
Waking Times

“When a public is stressed and confused, a big lie told repeatedly and unchallenged can become accepted truth.” ~George Orwell

The idea of slavery is one of those concepts that has the tendency to be uttered in black and white terms. But slavery is anything but black and white. There are many shades of gray that people tend to neglect, usually out of indifference, but also out of ignorance, or by side-stepping the idea as, “just the way things are.” It was a copout during the times of hard slavery and it’s a copout now, during these times of soft slavery.

A conscious man tries to change according to the changing situations, conditions, geographies. He should live consciously, not according to fixed rules. He should live in freedom.

You are asking, is there something universally right and wrong?

The man who comes to know the universal, the man who becomes so awakened that he is no longer part of any geography, any body, any mind, he is just pure awareness .... In that state there is nothing right, nothing wrong.

The man of that state will also have to function on lower levels. Hungry, he will have to eat; thirsty, he will have to drink. He will have to live in some kind of society, with some kind of people. The awakened man is very adjustable, infinitely adjustable, because for him there is nothing that prevents him from adjusting. He is free from all conditions, all barriers. The only thing is for him to see what is applicable in this particular case. He does not live according to principles. Only idiots live according to principles, only unconscious people need principles.

It is just like the staff of a blind man. The blind man needs the staff just to grope his way because he does not have eyes. But when you have eyes you can drop the staff

No Joy Is Too Small

God said:

When you wake up in the morning, ask yourself:

"What can I think of to do today that will bring me even a little joy?"

It's also fine to ask:

"What can I think of to do today that will bring a little joy to the world?"

Basically, the answers to two questions are the same.

Even if what will bring you joy today is a manicure, this is good. You may think a manicure is superficial and couldn't help the world. Just think what the world would be like if everyone who wanted a manicure today got one. Or a massage. Or a sauna. Joy is joy!

It is perfectly fine to find joy where you find it. Start with small-sized bites. No joy is too small. One joy will grow to another.

Let Me backtrack a bit now. If what is joy for you could cause a slight or pain to another, naturally, this does not qualify as a joy for you to take. To take advantage of another in any way, of course, does not qualify. It is not that anything goes.

At the same time, the joy that life today can give you does not have to be on the scale of saving the world. Nor does your joy for today have to be thoroughly magnanimous either. Personal joy is also joy. Start here.

Your joy could be picking a flower. An added joy could be for you to give that flower to someone whose face will light up because you offered a flower. Of course, the joy of lifting someone else's Life is great for you as well.

Are You Alice Looking through the Looking-Glass?

God said:

It's really true that every day is a day of new birth. Each day is a renewal. Cells replace themselves. You may have a new thought or two. You do something differently. No human being today is the same as yesterday, and tomorrow you will grow more. You have no say about this, you understand.

No need to think of this as aging. Physical changes are more like the changing of the guard. Physical changes are an appearance, yet, of course, Earth Life itself is altogether illusory.

What an advertisement Life on Earth is. Life on Earth goes all out. You give it your everything, and all the while, it is a group fantasy, somewhat like the game of Telephone where everyone speaks hurriedly and no one hears quite the same words, and, so, conversation is garbled. It is a fact that everyone hears his own version of life.

Life is certainly an interesting matter. Life is like a run-on sentence. There is no end to Life, no matter what transition you are going through. Life is the topic that happens to be before you in all kinds of amazing colors. Indeed, Life is a piece of work. What storytelling you live amidst! Life is a Master of Tales. Life is a run-on story, a story that goes over hill and dale, reaches high in the sky, and also goes under arches and underground as well. There is nothing on TV or in the best novel that beats the Circuitry of Life. Fiction does do a good job, mind you. Fiction gets your mind off your Life that sometimes seem to you to not be quite good enough.

Wherein hangs the tale?

Obama Expands Surveillance Powers on His Way Out

by Kate Tummarello, Electronic Frontier Foundation

With mere days left before President-elect Donald Trump takes the White House, President Barack Obama’s administration just finalized rules to make it easier for the nation’s intelligence agencies to share unfiltered information about innocent people.

New rules issued by the Obama administration under Executive Order 12333 will let the NSA—which collects information under that authority with little oversight, transparency, or concern for privacy—share the raw streams of communications it intercepts directly with agencies including the FBI, the DEA, and the Department of Homeland Security, according to a report today by the New York Times.

That’s a huge and troubling shift in the way those intelligence agencies receive information collected by the NSA. Domestic agencies like the FBI are subject to more privacy protections, including warrant requirements. Previously, the NSA shared data with these agencies only after it had screened the data, filtering out unnecessary personal information, including about innocent people whose communications were swept up the NSA’s massive surveillance operations.

I cannot say that vegetarianism is something universally right. I am absolutely a non-fanatic person. About nothing am I fanatic. I try to see all the aspects of a thing, and I am utterly liberal, human. I don't try to make any principle more valuable than humanity itself.

Nothing is above man.

Nothing should be above man.

So all these concepts of right and wrong are social, climatic. For example, in Tibet .... The holy book of the Tibetans says that one bath per year is absolutely necessary. In Tibet even that is a difficult job, and many must be trying to avoid it - even that one bath per year.

Science Proves This Holistic Treatment is More Effective Than Morphine

Anna Hunt, Staff
Waking Times

A new study has discovered that acupuncture can be more effective in treating pain than intravenous morphine. In addition, the researchers discovered that acupuncture can work faster in relieving pain and have fewer adverse effects. The study was conducted over a one-year period at the Fattaouma Bourguiba University Hospital in Tunisia. The results were published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine.

The Side Effects of Morphine Use

Morphine is an opioid pain medication which can have severe adverse effects. These include drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, tired feeling, anxiety and mild itching. Other risks associated with morphine use include misuse, abuse and addiction.

In addition, scientific research has shown that prescription opioids may actually worsen chronic pain. It appears that a holistic alternative to treating pain is much-needed in order to mitigate the dangers of conventional pharmaceutical pain treatment.

Now, a groundbreaking study shows that acupuncture is one of these effective holistic alternatives. Considering the study results, it may perhaps be even more effective than morphine.

National Academy of Sciences Issues Landmark Statement on Medical Cannabis

Alex Pietrowski, Staff Writer
Waking Times

In 2016, the Drug Enforcement Administration of the United States issued a long-awaited decision on the medical benefits of cannabis, and instead of validating what millions of people already know to be true about this healing plant, the DEA chose to keep intact the 1970 designation of cannabis as a schedule I substance, a drug which has, as they claim, no medical benefit.

Furthermore, in an even more egregious affront to justice and common sense, in December of 2016, the DEA made an overnight decision to create a new classification of schedule I drugs for cannabis extracts in order to stop the sale and consumption of CBD oil, a non-psychoactive derivative of cannabis which is known to have many health benefits.

Oregon Woman Freezes To Death After Being Evicted For $338 In Late Rent Payments

by Whitney Webb, True Activist

Karen Lee Batts, 52, met an unfortunate fate last Saturday when she succumbed to the freezing outdoor weather in Portland, Oregon.

Though Portland is often known for its quirkiness and microbreweries, the scourge of urban homelessness is quickly marring the reputation of Oregon’s largest city. Last Saturday, 52 year old Karen Lee Batts became the second person to die on Portland streets within the first week of 2017 due to hypothermia. Batts had been found in the Smart Park parking garage Saturday night when Portland Police arrived on the scene, responding to a report that a woman was taking off her clothes and struggling in the freezing weather. Though Batts’ actions may seem strange, it is actually common for sufferers of late stage hypothermia to frantically undress themselves as they begin to feel extremely hot due to nerve damage. Police responding to the scene arrived too late for Batts, who had already died from exposure to the cold.
