Does Perception Define Color?

Since we were kids, everyone has wondered if the red you see is the same as the red I see. This thought marks personal awareness and a want to understand the world around us. A scientist specifically raised his daughter never describing or pointing out the color of the sky. The language researcher wanted to know what his daughter would see with a intuitive and unique viewpoint. When asked what the color the sky was she was momentarily baffled, the sky was colorless! Later she decided the sky was white, and later still, concluded blue. Can you see something you don’t have a word for?

Pulling on this curious thread, a picture of a multicolored striped dress debuted across the internet challenging viewers to figure out the colors on the dress. Answers included white and gold or black and blue, varying enough to include orange and silver in some cases. It is a fun exercise revealing anyone’s unique interpretation of sensory context. Thankfully scientists and historians have been hard at work, progressing our understanding of sight and shared sensations.

By Andrea Schulman | Raise Your Vibration Today

Do you ever feel like you live in a dangerous world, and you have to fight to get ahead? Do you ever feel like you don’t measure up? Though all of us want to feel happy and fulfilled, there are a few vibrational traps in the media today that often inspire feelings of fear, anger, and insecurity within us.

It’s good to point out first that in many ways, the world we live in today is a wonderful world. Most of us have a high degree of comfort, flexibility and freedom (as compared to people of the past). I’d go so far to say it’s the best time in history to be alive. There are many reasons for us to feel good about our lives and the world around us.

With that being said, we’re always evolving, and there is always room for improvement. Here are a few ways that today’s media can kill your vibe and some advice on how to rise above it:

Breaking Down the Fourth Wall

“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.”

-Shakespeare

Anyone remotely familiar with Shakespeare knows that he sometimes employed the use of a commentator or “observer” in his plays, who periodically remarked, often satirically, on the action. Unlike a mere narrator, however, this type of character speaks essentially as a member of the audience, openly acknowledging that, yes, this is a play. In theater, this device is called “breaking the fourth wall,” with the idea that the stage has three walls (two sides, one back), with the fourth being the imaginary wall between the players and the audience. Wikipedia describes it as follows:

“The fourth wall is the imaginary ‘wall’ at the front of the stage… through which the audience sees the action in the world of the play…. Speaking directly to or otherwise acknowledging the audience through a camera in a film or television program, or through this imaginary wall in a play, is referred to as ‘breaking the fourth wall’ and is considered a technique of meta-fiction, as it penetrates the boundaries normally set up by works of fiction.”

3 Ways to Persevere & Accomplish Your Goals No Matter What

By Andrea Schulman | Raise Your Vibration Today

Having a big goal is a lot like having a baby. We know they will be challenging before we decide to create them, but we really have no clue of the magnitude of work they will require until we are in the middle of raising them and helping them grow. While we nurture them, we often feel as if we are failing miserably and wonder what we got ourselves into. Life’s big goals, like babies, require us to persevere.

For instance, when I decided to create this website and business, I had no earthly idea of the time, skills and resources it would require. I had absolutely no background in running a website or a business, and I had no idea how to blog, do any graphic design, code or handle internet marketing. I knew this goal would be challenging, but I gravely underestimated just how challenging it would be. I look back at the woman I was a year ago and shake my head. I literally cannot believe how naive I was.

20 Insightful Lessons Buddha Can Teach You

Buddhism has an abundance of peaceful yet insightful lessons that everyone can learn from. The important thing to remember is that kindness, understanding, and harmony can go a long way. If you’re looking for inspiration then look no further!

20 Insightful Lessons Buddha Can Teach You

1. Heal Everything With Your Love.

“Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.”

2. Actions Can Speak Louder Than Words.

“A dog is not considered a good dog because he is a good barker. A man is not considered a good man because he is a good talker.”

“A man is not called wise because he talks and talks again; but if he is peaceful, loving and fearless then he is in truth called wise.”

Annihilate Anxiety with Deep Breathing

The breath is the gateway to self-mastery.

Whatever you do, do not underrate the practice of breathing. Like with most normal human functions (walking is another example), you can easily fool yourself into overlooking its profound power. Just because the act of breathing is so simple does not make it ineffective. It’s actually quite the opposite. Deep breathing is an essential everyday panacea.

What makes the breath unique is that, even though the majority of it is done unconsciously, you can override this process and breathe consciously. This “conscious override” makes it a highly effective, special tool.

As you (hopefully) already know, deep breathing relaxes your body and mind. But the key is to truly, wholeheartedly understand this and be aware of your breathing as often as possible. When you’re aware of your breath, and consciously breathe deeply, you place yourself in a power position to change your mental, emotional and physical state.

Is Your Root Chakra Unbalanced? Try These 6 Grounding Methods

By Andrea Schulman | Raise Your Vibration Today

Our bodies are made up of seven energy centers, called chakras, and each chakra is responsible for a different aspect of our lives. Our “grounding center” is the root chakra (also called muladhara). This chakra is located at the base of our spine.

The root chakra is the first chakra, and it is responsible for providing the foundation upon which we build our lives. When balanced, the root chakra provides a feeling of security and trust. It roots you to the earth, allowing you to feel grounded, supported and cared for.

When the root chakra is underactive, you will likely feel a lack of protection or safety, a feeling of uneasiness or fearfulness, or even an inability to provide for your basic needs.

12 Dreamlike Perceptions Causing You Anxiety And Depression

By Mateo Sol | Loner Wolf

When I met Luna a few years ago she was experiencing great levels of anxiety. When she went to the doctor and explained her situation, they prescribed her with high levels of SSRI anti-depression medication. Months later, after reading all the endless long-term side effects of using those drugs, I immediately suggested she get off them.

My interest in Western psychology began as soon as I moved to Australia in my adolescence. For as long as I can remember I’ve been interested in the study of the minds relation with life. Growing up, I was taught that everything in the world was interconnected, that our perceptions of a divided reality are veils of illusions and dreamlike perceptions we create. My great-grandmother had a saying I still remember to this day:

En este mundo traidor; nada es verdad ni mentira, todo es según el color del cristal con que se mira.

‘In this deceitful world; nothing is true nor false, everything is the color of glass through which you look at life.’
