Stress, Brain Wiring, Empathy and Morality

By Mithu Storoni, MD, PhD

Is it a coincidence that people in high-octane jobs seem to have a streak of impulsivity, aggression and even unkindness? It is easy to assume that people with these character traits have simply chosen such work as their career, but is this fair? Instead, could it be that when people begin such jobs they have a completely different personality, yet over time, as chronic stress changes their brain wiring, their personality is completely altered?

Science seems to suggest the latter.

Stress shrinks key parts of the brain that affect rational thinking.

Healing Duality

In the history of humankind we have arrived at the juncture where the disharmony and violence within the collective of humanity and destruction against Gaia Sophia – the spirit name of our Mother, Earth – poses an alarming threat to continued Life on this planet. The wounds of this conflict are indeed a reflection of our individual and collective disconnection from the very source of all Life – Divinity – and pro tanto the natural world of Gaia Sophia.

Contemporaneously to the never-ending moment of destruction, we are being called into the era of Conscious Evolution: to consciously and collectively evolve beyond the endless moments of disconnection, discord and disharmony that presently exist on Earth. To actively participate in creating a New Earth: grounded and centred in our awareness of our inherent Divinity and Oneness. The Oneness that we find in Unity or Fifth dimensional consciousness – as creations of the superior force of Life – the Creative Life Force of All That Is.

Daily Message ~ Thursday August 20, 2015

A question that many people ask is, “How do I release old belief systems?” The answer is very simple, Dear Ones. You replace the old one that does not honour you, with a new one that more closely matches who you are today. Let us give you an example.

As a child you may have thought there were monsters under your bed. That belief would have seemed very real to you at the time, and would have been resulted in you feeling very fearful and disempowered.

As you grew older, you gradually realized that there weren’t monsters under your bed after all. You didn’t need elaborate healing ceremonies to release that belief. You didn’t need to do anything at all. You simply replaced the old disempowered belief with one that matched your new level of growth and understanding.

Do you see? Any belief system that you still carry that promotes fear or feeling disempowered in any way is outmoded and ripe for release. Connect with who you are today, examine whether beliefs are a match to your level of growth, empowerment and truth, or whether you are continuing them due to habit and conditioning. Then replace anything that does not honour and support you, with what does. It does not need to be any more complicated than that. ~Archangel Gabriel

5 Herbs To Boost Your Mental Well-Being

In the world we live in, the fostering of mental well-being is often put on the back burner, placing low on our list of priorities, if it makes it there at all. Partly, it is pushed aside because most people are taught from a young age not to show “weakness” in mentality, implicitly teaching us that the expression of emotions beyond a certain range and, in short, openly displaying that you are human, is weak. As a result, many individuals who are suffering mental anguish to an unhealthy degree remain silent out of fear of appearing weak. So, they tell themselves what they are feeling is no big deal and they need to get over it, burying negative thoughts and feelings deep within, where they fester and inevitably impact various areas of a person’s life. Many people who do end up seeking help in improving their mental well-being do so by visiting their primary care physician or a psychiatrist, whose solutions to such ‘problems’ are psychiatric medications with side effects that all too commonly result in a worsening of mental health.

The Way You Step Out of the Ocean…

God said:

When a deed is done, do you stew about it, or do you move on? You well know that the thing to do is to move on, yet this is easier said than done.

A wrong was done to you thirty years ago, let’s say, and you may well not have let go of it yet. You may have handcuffed yourself to this old offense, and you keep it warm. It is a slow burn.

Whether it is something wonderful that happened to you once upon a time, and now it is no more, or, if it is a cruel blow that happened, you can’t keep reheating it. If you have a wound, you don’t keep picking at it. You may be absolutely right that what happened to you never should have happened to you. The thing is it did happen, and now you must let it go and move right along. The past is nothing to keep vibrating within you. Let it go.

The way you step out of the ocean on a wonderful summer day, this is the way to step out of the past. You step out just like that. You dry yourself off, and then you go home or perhaps out to eat. Certainly, you don’t keep repeating stepping out of the ocean as though it were a chant or a football replay.

If there is a part of your life that isn’t happy for you to think about, why keep mulling it over? And if there were a very beautiful part of your life and it is no more, why hold onto what is no longer? Why relive it to make yourself sad? Why do you want to be sad?

Transformation from inner and outer travels

Back home after an awesome 3 months based in Mexico and the US!

Travel is always so transformative, a kind of world between worlds, a pause between life chapters.

Being in a different environment, and this can happen in trips just days long, gifts you with the opportunity to remove yourself from your usual life. Stripped of much of your daily routine and surrounds, you get to BE anew.

This pause is often the circuit breaker that has people coming home to realise parts of their old life no longer fit, while new pathways and expressions of self beckon.

The accelerated energies of our present times being what they are, our 3 months felt like a year. Creatively, spiritually and physically it feels like we've gone through an inner systems re-boot, and I know many of you are feeling the same way.

We need contemporary mystics; we need people in whose hearts new Upanishads can arise. We need people who can talk the way Jesus talked, on their own authority. We need courageous mystics who can say they have experienced God, not because the scriptures say God is, but because they have known God; not just learned people, knowledgeable people, but people of wisdom.

Enough of scholarship. Scholarship is just very mediocre; scholarship cannot bridge modern science with mysticism. We need Buddhas, not people who know about Buddha. We need meditators, lovers, experiencers. And then the day is ripe, the time has come, when science and religion can meet and mingle, can be welded together. And that day will be one of the greatest days of the whole of human history; it will be a great day of rejoicing, incomparable, unique, because from that day, the schizophrenia, the split humanity will disappear from the world. Then we need not have two things, science and religion; one thing will do.

For the outer it will use scientific methodology, for the inner it will we religious methodology. And "mysticism" is a beautiful word; it can be used for that one science or one religion, whatsoever you call it. "Mysticism" will be a beautiful name. Then science will search for the outer mystery, and religion will search for the inner mystery; they will be the two wings of mysticism. "Mysticism" can become the word that denotes both. Mysticism can be the synthesis of both.

And with this synthesis, many more syntheses will happen on their own accord. For example, if science and religion can meet in mysticism, then East and West can meet, then man and woman can meet, then poetry and prose can meet, then logic and love can meet, then layer upon layer, meetings can go on happening. And once this has happened, we will have a more perfect man, more whole, more balanced.

The Precious Present

lotusLinda George, Contributor
Waking Times

The Buddhists tell us that ‘being born as a human is highly unusual.’ It is, they say, a tremendous privilege and a most precious gift, this human life. One of the reasons it is so precious is that within all of us lies the potential for Buddhahood – or enlightenment. That is, the unobscured awareness of the true nature of this reality and this life.

Dharma, or the Buddhist path is a practice of removing the obstacles that cloud our awareness of this true nature. Can we find this path, walk this path – if we are not Buddhist or practitioners of any particular spiritual system?

Yes, it is my understanding and belief that we can find our own Dharma, walk our own path to enlightenment – which means freedom from suffering. And the way to begin is simply to pay attention!

Attention – to what? To life.
