NEW YORK — When this year's Sept. 11 anniversary ceremony unfolds at ground zero, the mayor who has helped orchestrate the observances from their start will be watching for his last time in office. And saying nothing.

Over his years as mayor and chairman of the National Sept. 11 Memorial & Museum, Michael Bloomberg has sometimes tangled with victims' relatives, religious leaders and other elected officials over an event steeped in symbolism and emotion.

In a Friday post on Facebook, the organizers apologized to city residents for what will likely be gridlock as the patriotic bikers rev their engines in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and the U.S. soldiers who shipped off to fight al-Qaida in Afghanistan 12 years ago.

 

 

"What could have been a one or two hour ride through will now likely be an all day event," the organizers said. The plan is to meet up outside D.C. and cross into the city sometime after 11 a.m. The exact route isn't being made public, they said, because of "security purposes."

On the 12th anniversary of 9/11, a new national survey by the polling firm YouGov reveals that one in two Americans have doubts about the government’s account of 9/11, and after viewing video footage of World Trade Center Building 7’s collapse, 46% suspect that it was caused by a controlled demolition. Building 7, a 47-story skyscraper, collapsed into its own footprint late in the afternoon on 9/11.

Despite earlier US assurances that its Department of Defense does not “engage in economic espionage in any domain,” a new report suggests that the intelligence agency NSA spied on Brazilian state-run oil giant Petrobras.

Brazil's biggest television network Globo TV reported that the information about the NSA spying on Petroleo Brasileiro SA came from Glenn Greenwald, the American journalist who first published secrets leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Aidan Dwyer took a hike through the trees last winter and took notice of patterns in the mangle of branches. His studies into how they branch in very specific ways lead him to a central guiding formula, the Fibonacci sequence. Take a number, add it to the number before it in a sequence like 1+1=2 then 2+1=3 then 3+2=5, 8, 13, 21 and so on a very specific pattern emerges. Turns out the pattern and its corresponding ratios are reflected in nature all the time, and Aidan’s keen observation of how trees branch according to the formula lead him to test the theory. First he measured tree branches by how often they branch and at what degree from each other.

We all know that government policy is for sale and corporations can easily exploit our corrupt politicians for financial gain. Here we look at five industry sectors that are able to buy their way to influencing government policy the most.

Defense Contractors

Defense contractors have serious pull in Washington for several reasons. The civilian and contractor labor force of the military has grown while enlisted forces have shrunk. The Department of Defense no longer manufactures its own hardware, relying on defense contractors to do this work. Defense contractors like Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Raytheon have significant influence in key districts because of the jobs they bring, the prestige military contracts have and the cash they have to donate. The UK Daily mail reported that senators who voted for the Syria revolution received more than 80% more cash from defense contractors that those who did not. In essence, those who get more money from the war machine are voting for war, regardless of national interests.

The pyramid of global control is falling, falling, falling

Commentary by

I hadn’t connected the advancing legalization of marijuana to the other signs that the global elite is losing control. But it makes sense, otherwise, how could it be happening? I think back to my very Republican Dad, at the end of his life last August, almost agreeing to ingesting medical marijuana for his pain (after a lifetime of being worried that some of his kids would turn into druggies). Though holding on for dear life to his own privilege to the bitter end, he also said to me once that the rich have to give up their wealth or there will be a revolution.  I have a feeling that he’s now as stunned as the rest of us as to just how quickly things are changing.
