"Folks, it’s time to evolve. That’s why we’re troubled. You know why our institutions are failing us, the church, the state, everything’s failing? It’s because, um – they’re no longer relevant. We’re supposed to keep evolving. Evolution did not end with us growing opposable thumbs. You do know that, right?"

There are few stand-ups in the history of comedy who possessed more passion and vitriol than Bill Hicks. As with all the greats (Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Richard Pryor) he pushed the art-form to its limits, extracting alchemical gold from some of the darkest aspects of the human psyche. Nothing was untouchable. Everything from the war on drugs to the abortion debate to television being ‘Lucifer’s Dream Box’ were covered during his seemingly off-the-hook but meticulously well-crafted stage performances. At one point he actually displayed footage he shot himself of the tragedy in Waco Texas to demonstrate how the media distorts the truth and crafts propaganda to fit its agenda. One need only watch a handful of his performances to get a clear idea of his on-stage persona as an angry, outside-of-the box thinker with a razor-sharp mind and wits set on ‘kill’.

God said:

Yes, this is so. You puzzle. You are clearly puzzled. I am the Simple of the Simple. I see. I do not react. Talk about the Present, I present life, and I am the Present. My Board of Directors is One. I do not sit and ponder. I am One Motion. I cover the Universe, and I am the Universe. I do not hide. I see far and wide, yet I am hidden from your view, except as how the world turns. I am your Proponent. I do not once leave your side, yet you puzzle this. You wonder how you can feel so alone and it be true that I am by your side.

Yardfarmers is a new reality TV/documentary series hybrid for release in Spring 2017. It will follow a diverse set of six young Americans as they move back home with their parents to become yardfarmers. The production crew at Yardfarmers is currently searching for the right people to participate in the show. The concept is simple: follow six young Americans as they live with their parents and attempt to make a livelihood out of growing food in their parents’ and neighbours’ yards, random street flower boxes, churchyards, school yards, vacant lots, cemeteries, or whatever spaces they can find that can be converted from useless ornamental lawn into a new source of healthy, local, and sustainable food. Apart from raising awareness about some of the important issues and challenges we face, Yardfarmers is about converting unsustainable suburban developments, urban food deserts, or other neglected land into sustainable, more resilient opportunities for people while building community. While not everyone can be in a reality TV show like Yardfarmers, everyone can become a yardfarmer. With interest in the “grow your own” food movement which is gaining ever more traction, the show is destined to be a hit.
